dont get me wrong - I love deepstriking - it is very effective and potent in many cases, however, I hate the randomness of it, especially for my GM so I have changed up my previously pure GK to include some cheaper troops and vehicles...
I am not losing faith in the GK's - I just dont think I am a good enough player yet to handle pure GK in the upcoming GT's (Houston and Dallas - both of which I will be attending)
the last game I DSed my GM he didnt show till turn 3 and he only got one round of CC before he died of shooting (frickin tau crisis suits)
so - here is my new army - tear it apart folks
GM w/Incense, Grimoire, IotJ, Teleport homer
Retinue - 4 Termies, Holocaust
2 squads of IST's x 7, vet w/teleport homer, 2 melta guns, Rhino w/XA and smoke, and a searchlight
FAGK's x 10, Justicar w/targeter, Psycannon
FAGK'2 x 5, Justicar w/targeter, 2 Psycannons
4 GK w/Psycannons, Justicar w/targeter
Land Raider Crusader w/psycannon Bolts
for me - the entire point of this army is to get the GM into combat as quickly as possible - to that end I will be starting him in the LRC and moving him and the rhinos forward every turn possible, the GT is not using Trial vehicle rules so this gives the GM a 20" charge range from the LRC so, assuming it lives past turn one, thats a fairly potent threat
depending on the outcome of shooting in turn 1 (and turn 2 if I dont get to go first) I can bail out and drop the 10 man FAGK squad down around me and use them as a shield to advance
the 5 man FAGK squad will drop in and fill any shooting gaps I may need and the purgation squad will do what they do best (12 s6 shots per turn - :o )
meanwhile, if any are alive, the IST's will go after tanks
I know, I know - I am seriously short of anti tank, I am relying on IST's melta guns, LRC multimelta, and the lance strike - shaky at best
but I will be play testing this army in the coming weeks and seeing if it is viable
let me know what you think
purgation squads are not a very good idea they are jus two pricey. I just spread the psycannons they would have around in normal squads.
personally though i dont use psycannons except for an inquistor. Grey knights are beefy enough as is without paying the price of another marine +5 for 3 str 6 shots instead of 4 str 4 shots another marine and 2 more str 6 close combat attacks.
when is there going to be a GT in houston?
You know what they say, if you dont like the weather in houston...go back to where you came from
meeper - I think it is in May although I cant find the info on GW's site - I could be wrong
orius - I know, I could have another full ten man squad instead of the purgation team - but I am going to play test this and see how it goes
I am hoping that people will do their best to avoid the purge squad almost as like a lance strike
i would be interested to hear how the lance strike goes as if u are charging and hoping to get into combat, i would be afraid of the strike killing my own models (and maybe HQ). I know ppl will say u can lower the prob. of this but the risk is still there so i think it will proberly end up being used to cover a flank or to deny the enemy use of part of his deployment zone
that being said, it only costs 70 pt. so will be not a waste if u use it to funnel the enemy and deny him part of the board
max, I'd say that you'd throw the Orbital Strike at the rear of the enemy's zone, and charge them. The strike will force them to move forward towards you, and stop their heavy weapons from firing.
I'll just stay 12" away from the terrain that I key the orbital strike to - my opponent is welcome to remain that close to the strike if he wishes - hell of a risk tho
thats a good point mega, i might try it sometime
