Would it be possible to make an effective army without using shock troopers? I really want to play guard but dont really like shocktroops and dont really like having to paint 25+ models for a single troops choice. I know it is legal but could it be effective?
I see what you mean by you need numbers to win. Thanks for replying by the way. The hunt for an army continues... any ideas? Preferably someone easy to paint but fun to play.

Well if its easy to paint then SM are the easiest that i can think of. paint 'em red or blue or whatever then do the eyes and guns....thats about it tbh.
Also you only have about 10 per squad, much less than IG.
But the problem with SM is that everyone owns them, and so it's not really all that fun. For that reason, i've never played SM and never will.
This probably didn't help but...mleh

Thats the same reason I dont play SM. I'm leaning towards a DE or Chaos army.
Well, you can do an effective Grenediers army with anywhere between 50-70 models at a 1500pt level. That's less than a lot of other IG armies.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
If you mount your Storm troopers in transports and have a couple of tanks its really easy to get an IG army with a few models.
If you are looking at another army, I suggest Deamon Hunters.
They are really fun to play and only slightly more detailed then regular marines.
But the best place to start is looking at all of the different armies on the GW website and find one that fits your philosophies or one that has models that you like.
It's worth a krak!
