I am Making my own space marine chapter with traits called Deadfall marines because i like the name and my marines will be like a gurilla recon force like the ravan guard and will have a subtle camouflage scheme for their armour and tanks.
Anyway the traits: I have chosen for them are cleanse and purify as it wouldent be very suitable to carry heavy weapons though a jungle and into combat so 2 assult weps should do the damage.
No mercy no respite: Most of the squads are bolter squads but i think this fits the theme of a strong suprise attack force hitting hard surprising the enemy before they can react
See but dont be seen: This is because they are stealthy and scout out the best places setting devastators up on vantage points and surrounding the enemy before the attack
Flesh over steel: Tanks aint very stealthy so itll be mostly infantry and no bikes only jump packs as fast attack only one tank will be taken, the whirlwind as it will be far away from the enemy so wont be heard and can then rain down missles on the enemy, and maybe a rhino for the command squad who was the battle has begun can smash their way through and direct the fighting.
aspire to glory: Terminators again are not very stealthy and not really suited to this kinda fighting so can be eliminated from the list.
So what do you think does it sound ok? what about the name? any suggestions would be great
You can only have two advantages
Blais's Paint Studio-Getting broken armies good soft scores since 2009
I'm thinking that you should take Trust your Battle Brothers (or whichever once gives you True Grit) over No Mercy No Respite. I imagine sneaky Marines would want to have close range firepower and close combat covered and there's no better way to have a large number of attacks and still pump out many shots than True Grit and bolters.
You also can't have 2 major disadvantages, ever.
"Thousand Sons! Fight in the Emperor's name!"
DA :8/5/7 Eldar:3/3/5 1KSons:3/1/2
Actually, you can have any number of disadvantages you like. Your just never required to have more then one major disadvantages.
The maximum penalty is 1 major disadvantage, and 1 minor disadvantage.
As for traits, see and don't be seen, and no mercy no respite makes for excessively expensive marines - as does true grit for that matter. Cleanse and purify is a pretty useful trait, but it kinda depends on what your looking for.
Seen and don't be seen + Cleanse and purify would do ok, but not great. It might require a change in fluff - but drop pods and cleanse if purify work wonders.
Seen and dont be seen + take the fight to them, is probably the best combo for infiltrating armies. This allows all your marines to use bolt pistol and close combat weapons, for free, while infiltrating close to the enemy.
Disadvantages, i like aspire to glory the best, particularity when no one has ever heard of your army and if all goes well, they will never forget them.
As for minor disadvantages, none of them really have much effect, so try to pick the fluffiest for your army. Do they fight alone?: no allies. Do they lack a large orbital fleet?: Die standing. Do they hate librarians?: faith in suspicion. Do they put honour before mission?: Death before dishonour.
The other one wont work with infiltrating lists. Die standing wont work with drop poding lists.
If you want to make a jungle-based Chapter, go ahead, but this is the problem.
No Mercy, No Respite will leave you wanting with Bolter Squads not being able to charge after their guns, but you've been smart and chose to have more assault weapons. To be a real hybridised man, give your Sergeants a Storm Bolter and Power weapon. They'll hit at S5 I5 with the power weapon, so can do some damage before the enemy does, the Storm Bolter keeps the shots coming and you can assault after firing it, sure it may not give you the more attacks but you'll be thanking your lucky stars for the chance to do more damage before charging.
As for the weapons you take, unless you want a staticy, not-really-assaulting squad don't take Plasma. You're using Furious Assault and will not be able to shoot with Bolters for that 1 turn, so if your squad is going to be assaulty, stock up on Melta & Flamer. Fear Khaine of yu do this, so keep one of the Plasma squads around to actually lay the hurt on the guy.
If you want to have be swift as the wind, yet want to be a Jungle Chapter, you're lying to yourself. What jungle force would use Bikes that take dangerous terrain tests in Difficult terrain? Even if they don't, they'll be draining your pts and will not make much of a difference due to all the difficult terrain.
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
Cheers everyone for the replies they've been really helpfull thanks
and some changes have been made as they made more sense then my original idea.
Advantages I've changed now to see and dont be seen as well as take the fight to them as it does seem the most suitable for their fluff, drop pods sound cool but dosent really fit.
and for disadvantages ill take aspire to glory and we stand alone. As they are a small strike force only recently created to specifically fight in these enviroments. So no terminators and vehicles as there not pratical.
I want my army to have mainly infantry with scouts tacticals and assault marines with devastators in the background covering them. I wont have any vehicles except a whirlwind tank as it could be entrenched and rain missiles down when the attack starts. I dont like bikes and landspeeders much so there out.
So this should make a challenging army to play for me and an opponent.
Lastly is the name okay? I think marines from the Deadfall chapter sounds cool and fits in with their fluff as Deadfall is a trap that crushes its prey just like this chapter.
Theres no need to be stealthy though if you just drop pod in they might as well have bright pink armour because sneaking plays no part if you just fall right in the middle of the enemy.
would still be a surprize though
any other name suggestions then?
First, don't change the name if it's a name you've thought up and like. What you're going to end up with here is a Chapter that is not of your own making and believe, ultimately, you won't enjoy them so much.
I personally quite like the name as it happens.
Now... trying to help you with what you've already created, I would suggest you might use the 2 traits "Cleanse And Purify" and No Mercy, "No Respite". Both are assault orientated and work well with both a geurilla recon force and a strong suprise attack force.
Deadfall does give the feeling of a Drop Pod force, so Drop Pods might not be such a bad idea. Your Chapter does not have to be Jungle based per-se... it could be designed, as are most Chapters, to operate in any terrain.
You said "Theres no need to be stealthy though if you just drop pod in they might as well have bright pink armour because sneaking plays no part if you just fall right in the middle of the enemy." Now, that is true, but one of the elements of your Chapter is a strong suprise attack force and Drop Pods do work very well with that aspect of things.
Remember also, that you can always leave the Drop Pods at home and use Scouts, Land Speeders or Whirlwinds etc should your upcoming battle demand them. The key to a good Chapter is diversity... being able to adapt to what you're facing.
So in summary, you could use the Chapter as a recon at times, and a surprise attack force at others. The 2 elements together don't really work... recon is exactly that.... a recon force would unlikely be equipped as a full on strike force and vice-versa.
Hope that helps.
