Don't take Grenadiers!
Hi all, after i finish my current ig army, I am thinking of a grenadiers army. Can a grenadiers army do well in tournaments? first places?
I voted to take grenadiers. If you haven't tried them out yet, you should definitely see if you like them. As for doing well in tournaments, I think that any army can do well if you are a shrewd army-list builder and a good tactician.
Personally, I think grenadiers can be a chalenging army because you have fewer bodies than regular IG are used to, and much, much less heavy weapons. Sentinels and tanks are your best friends.
Actually, there are a bunch of good threads on this forum about how to play a grenadiers army so I'd recommend you check them out. What I'm saying is, yes it can be a competitive army.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
I put Grenadiers, of course!
The can give you a BS 4 flair, especially when combined with Veterans Doctrine.
Honestly though......too many polls

Sure why not take them? I think they work better as a whole army with a platoon acting as fire support as you tend to lack anti-tank when playing a pure elite army. Oh and they look cool too!
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
Stationary just has lots and lots of infantry and HW teams who just stand and shoot
Mobile relies on chimeras for each grenadier unit, which makes them pretty much mechanized
Airborne relies on flier delivering storm trooper on the field, but not many have the money to buy them so this is the most rare one to face on the field.
Overall you might want to think of an army list before you actually decide to collect the models, this way you wont waste any money on things you will never use. I made this mistake, and feel really bad about it.
I agree with wraithguardian. Write a list first and decide on a rough battle plan itll make life easier in the long run.
The other thing to do is just to expad the grenadirs section of your existing army, thats how most people end up playing mech or tank company so i dont see how diferent it is. It also means that you can use the units from the off with your existing models and get a feel for them. ie. the first three units you go for just use as stormies in a regular army, then the next unit as a grenadier etc etc. this way you will slowly replace your army.
Hope that helps
I tend to stray from grenadiers for the same reason I stray away from carapace armour.
No matter how much you try to equal other armies resilience, you'll never achieve this. But to have a stormtrooper squad mixed in with lots of troops is a fine idea, and it can work well.
I've never used grenadiers because of that reason.
But in my humble opinion, it is way more important to have an army that you enjoy using, and like the background. The best and wisest thing I can say is to follow your heart (or something like that). Sounds real corny, but if you follow that you can make any army list work.
Take them, there awesome:yes:
Saying that, in my opinion a whole army of stormtroopers probably won't be as effective as having a single unit as (mobile)fire support because even though they have 4+ saves, their guns still won't go through much more than a single piece of paper. Guard need to have heavy weapons to deal a reasonable amount of firepower.
