I haven't posted in a long time, but here goes...
I'm planning to have a few battles against eldar mostly among other races. And I'm wondering if 60 guardsmen is enough to pull me through in 1200 points.
My current army consists of
6 HWT's (3 lascannon, 3 hv. bolter)
2 Leman Russ
Command squad (home-made)' w' a regimental standard
So, I have spare cash floating around and I'm thinking either
or more guardsmen.
So basically what I'm asking is 'will 60 guardsmen be enough to pull me through in 1200-1500 points'. If that is enough, then what should I invest in next (considering I want a well-rounded list).
Any help would be appreciated.
in my 1500pt list i only have 40 guardsmen.
if you are playing eldar a hellhound would be great as their are a lot of 4+ saves. it also get rid of ranger who can be impossible to kill if they get in any 4+ cover( making it a 2+ save!!!!!).
2 sentinels either with auto cannon/ scatter laser, deep strike them and tank hunt enemy rear armour!!! or DS heavy flamers to mop up troops.
Thanks for the advice.
Hellhounds are definitely an option as are sentinels, but at the moment I'm leaning towrd HWT's because I could always use more.
I'm wary of a bassie at the moment since eldar aren't really susceptible to artillery fire as other armies.
But I'm still open to more opinions.
One HW in every squad with one special weapon. I would get six plasma guns for your troops to go with the HWs. I might also get another HW box set so you can build three Missle Launchers, a mortor for your HQ, and move the Lascannons to a dedicated HW AT squad for you HQ.
After that I make sure I have three pie plate Tanks. A bassie might be a good addition for you if you play on 4' x 6' boards and not 4' x 4' boards.
After that it's really up to you as what style of play and what interests you. I love Tanks, so for me it would be a Hellhound, but you could add rough riders, sentinals or my beloved Stormtroopers with Chimeras.

Thanks for the reply Diggums.
The plasma guns seem like a good idea, but I tend to favour the humble grenade launcher due to the $$$ cost. 6 plasma guns would set me back over $100AUD, while grenade launchers come with the cadians.
Now I'm really tossing up between a hellhound and ratlings. I know the ratling models aren't what people consider as desirable, but they are kind of cute in a perverted, demented way.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a place where I could get plasma guns and such cheaper in Australia. If anyone knows of such a place, then list it.
Ask around with your space marine friends, they will generally have plasma guns or just bitz order some plasma guns. Battlewagon bitz has em too. For eldar...the hellhound is the shiznat...you decimate enite infantry squads with every shot. Particularly extremely expensive pathfinders. I would take as many lascannons as possible and several hellhounds. The entire game just sit their and stun and shake his tanks (you will never destroy them...its just soooo hard) and then deepfry his troops with hellhounds and russ's.
Joe Peshi (lone wolf) kill tally:Lash Sorcerer, Ghazkull, Yriel, Termi Libby, Vulkan.
I quite like it how youassume that I have SM friends. And you know what, your right, I know plenty of them. But I'm not sure how to convert SM plasma guns into guardsmen, but I'll try to experiment.
As to what I should buy next, hellhounds seem to be a good buy.
thanks for the help.
just a point, HWT are bad against most armies, especialy eldar and tau. this is because the can easily be picked out and destroyed and they can't split fire. instead, put the HWs in normal squads. which is better. 3 lascannons with 6 wounds (but after 4 wounds u sart losing the HWs) that can only fire at one target or 2 lascannons with 20 wounds that can split fire. i'm not saying one is better than the other, just that SOMETIMES 1 is better than the other and you should be rady for these instances.
