i have thought about using the JO with the honorifica, and was thinking about using vox on my squads. is this worth the points?
Given the average leadership of guardsmen, one can seriously consider addig vox'. you might be able to boost the leadership with 2 points, which is a lot better.
If i make a quick estimation, pointwise it would be about the same as a space marine master would cost. In a space marine army that model has the same ability as you would copy with the vox. In a guard army that would make about 1 squad i guess.
Leadership is often an issue in a guard army, vox might be able to improve that.
I would say, yes, worthwhile.
I think you'll get mixed answers from Guard players. On the one hand, the vox is an efficient use of points, and if you want Ld9 Guardsmen then it's a good way to go. Just a sidenote, it you are using it, then definitely use a mastervox and a Heroic officer, to get as much out of it as possible.
The downside is that it costs points that could get you maybe another squad of guardsmen, and it's only useful for certain playstyles. Personally, my guardsmen don't really split up much in a battle (in fact, they barely move at all) so I find that the 12" Ld bubble is good enough for me. If I was to do something fancy, then it would be a lot cheaper to just make 2 Ld bubbles.
So it depends. If you like using static line squads weighed down with heavy weapons, then I would recommend a Company Standard instead. But if your guardsmen zoom around in chimeras and consistently find themselves digging in outside of the Ld bubble, then vox it is.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES.......oh and YES, you SHOULD take Vox-casters, there extremely cheap and extremely effective, I have one in every squad and a master vox in my command squad, and considering your never really 12" from the commander cus your moving around, it gives you the LD you need.
Mr Lincoln is right. Playstyle is everything. In my army for instance, I feild a mechanized list. This gives me a low body count, so I need every man I have. The independacy of the chimera squads requires that they stray out of the leadership bubble occasionaly, so I take the vox. I do not take a aster vox though, because since my army is so small, I have never found myself taking more then one morale test a turn. I mean, in 1850pts, I field 51 guardsmen. I do take 10 sentinels,5 chimeras and 2 leman russes, but that is besides the point....
So to answer your question, yes and no, it depends on your playstyle.

I used to take voxes in my army but they have been long dropped. They are great as long as you can keep your senior officer (senior or heroic) alive. The general tactic that my opponents would use when I had voxes was to take out the HQ officer and at that point the voxes are useless. What I do to counter the lack of voxes is to take a Heroic office in HQ and have a JO in a platoon HQ with the honorifica. That extends your 12 bubble to two areas. I also take a couple of doctrines to boost their staying power, close order drill and iron disclipine. That gives the guards +1 leadership and the unmodified leadership check for being under half strength and out numbered.
Where the heck did all them guardsmen come from?
Great Wolf! Is that the howl of the 13th?
As stated above there are two sides, 1 if you stay close to the officers then no need, the other side is if you move or use mobile tactics then you will need them.
I use them mainly for fluff.
Some things too remember though.
If you take close order drill this doesnt work with the vox. It adds to the squads personal ld so the only way that works is if you have a vet sarge for it too boost.
Secondly advisors dont give benefits down the vox (this is the commisar im talking about). Iron discipline doesnt work down vox either (stupid FAQ so so damn unrealistic and unfluffy we house rule over this though in tournies you have to abide by it).
iron discipline is great but again its limited through vox and by it being not accumlative.
basically to sum up.
1) iron discipline and standard for static line
2) COD and vet sarges if you move a few units (also only out it in these units) this can be also used for a mobile army however it is limited to platoons and conscripts so not any AF or grenadier squads.
3) voxes, for mobile armies or where there are 1-2 mobile units that need the boost (such as two chimera mounted stormie squads , thatd mean three voxes)
hope that helps
As said before its a yes and no thing. Just depends on what you like and what your playing style is.
I take an HSO at 1500pts, give him ID, a company standard, and maybe a commissar once and a while.
Plus the CoD doctrine and vet sgts in all my squads if I can.
I don't use the master vox at all, i would have to buy a vox, then upgrade to a master and then buy them for every squad. i just prefur vets, CoD, and ID. Besides its with my fluff anyway.
I just use command squads as not only do they provide you with better Ld they also add to the number of men in your army and give you a extra heavy weapon. If your going to use command squads over the vox make sure you have one for each two infantry squads in your army if you can.
Really in a 1000 point army you will be spending around 65 points on a vox network, is that really a good use of points when you can use command squads with standards or iron disclipine.
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
65 points for a vox network in 1000 points? seems a little steep i pay 55 for one in 1500 points though it depends if its infantry only. Basically only take it if you are going to be moving, if this is the case there will generally be less units and therefore it is cheaper, a JO with HI and an HSO in the main command a standard and iron discipline 3 times over will cost 65 points and thats in an average army. So its much of a muchness.
