    Daemonhost Instakill

    Oy, dis ere's a question to all ya 'umie gitz. So in playing a radical dameonhunter friend of mine, I was using my ork rokkit buggies to snipe his daemonhosts from a distance. With toughness 4 my str 8 rokkits were capable of instakill. We ran into an issue when his host gained warp strength for a turn increasing his toughness. We looked online and in the errata for clarification if this was similar to the chaos daemon mutation where toughness was increased but NOT for instakill purposes. We couldn't find anything and just rolled a D6 to decide the rule. I put it to you guys, does warp strength affect the instakill value?

    I would say no, as like you said Daemonic resillience does not affect insta-kill. The daemon host is not a MC like a greater daemon or DP. It's still host bound by a human body.

    Yeah, generally the model's base toughness is used for insta-kill purposes. If a bonus is considered, it is generally noted in the description of the item/power. The only thing that comes to mind that actually does increase the strength value needed to insta-kill is a Destroyer body for the Necron Lord. There may be others, but that's all I could come up with for now . So: your Rokkit should insta-kill the Daemonhost in future battles =).

    Warlord Da Moose you are correct the added toughness does not count towards instakill.

    their base toughness is 4. Just like bikes, and that +1 Chaos mutation, they don't up the bar to instakill. I'd say the +1 toughtness from the deamonhost power is a +1 bonus like that of a bike. So S8 still instakills.

    Another exception - just FYI - would be the Daemonic Stature gift in the Chaos Codex. This actually bumps up the base toughness by 1. But like mentioned earlier, Daemonic Resilence won't count. Railguns still hurt...

    Also, somewhat humorously, I never thought I'd hear an Ork player speak of sniping during an actual battle. {goofy}

    reply to instakill

    It would effect the instakill, if the toughness doubled to 8 then you no longer double the toughness, thus effecting the instakill rule.

    Unfortunately for the Daemonhost in question, base stat values are used for the purposes of determining insta-kills. Furthermore, the toughness isn't doubled: it's simply a random bonus added to the Daemonhost's base toughness. And, just like a Space-marine on a bike, a strength 8 or higher weapon will cause instant death. There are only a few exceptions where a bonus to toughness is considered for the purposes of instant death, and it is specifically noted in those cases (like a Destroyer body on a Necron Lord, for instance). This is why bike or jet-bike riders have their toughness stat listed like so: 4 (5). The first number is the base stat, used for insta-kill purposes, and perhaps some others I'm not thinking of, while the second is the "boosted" stat.

    Also, an insteresting bit of necromancy, there =P.
