Greetings Battle Brothers (and Sisters!)
As a veteran gamer of many years and a fairly aggressive "in your face" sort of player, I am embarking on developing a Flesh Tearers (FT) Army that will, I hope, be heavily fluff-based.
General consensus seems to be that the best way forward is to use Codex SM and incorporate Fierce traits. I was thinking of the 2 that allow me the Furiosu Charge option plus allowing Tactical Squads to arm themselves with BPs and CCWs - both of which I think fit in with the FT fluff. That still leaves me with a slight problem of how to replicate with the Death Company. My initial thoughts are to use the Veteran squad option and to give then (paid-for) jump-packs, and I doubt if any of my normal opponents will object to that. I'll also make it a general rule that all squads have to charge anything that is in charge reach (a bit like the SW Blood Claws) because that too seems pretty "fluffy".
I won't be using any terminators, but I'm a bit stuck on whether to take any Dreads since I'm not sure any FTs would survive long enough to become Dread "pilots".
Any thoughts or advice at this stage will be most welcome and I'll keep you posted as things develop.

would it not be much better to use blood angel rules? im pretty sure its almost meant to be done that way with flesh tearers, or any succesor chapter with claim to the lineage of a chapter with its own codex. ask around, she may have just entered a votewar with them for fun, but im pretty sure firedrake28 is a fleshtearer/bloodangel in general aficionado.

Wouldn't be smart to start flesh tearers atm considering the new BA rules will replace them as they are Blood angels because their old rules no longer apply
However, everyone is open to using any rules you want.. The difference is, getting others to agree to let you use time lapsed rules
Actually given Flesh tearers preponderance for Death company the best way to play them would undoubtedly be codex BA, they are far mroe than any codex with traits approach
I had this discusion with GW on the phone, whist you may have trouble in tourneys, (notably US GT stated FT should be played using BA rules) the old Index astaries rules can still be used, so in friendlies I would stick to them
