I've been off the board for some time, and am now seeing a new acronym RAW, what doe's it mean?
breath, sight, squeeze.
now double tap just for grins
and Another One bite's the dust.
A bolter round for all that oppose the Emperor.
as above RAW is Rules as written, the problem arrises because GW are not infalibile, there are mistakes and ambiguities in the rules. RAW says "it dont matter, just play it as it says!" the issues is things are clearly wrong, the most obvious exampel of a glaring error, although not rules related, it find the page in the main rule book that shows a 2 page spread of Demon hunters and witch hunters.. see the text on the bottom right - read it carefully, whose side are they on?????
But ambiguities can lead to arguements, eg: AP1 always casues hits on vehicles that are glancing or penetrating to be XXXXX (avoiding stating the actual rule), fast movign skimmers always convert XXXX to YYYY (ditto) you see the problem? to make matters worse, if I score a glancing hit with an AP1 weapon on a fast moving skimmer, does the skimmer rule apply????
Everything you have been told is a lie!
I would have said Read As Written, but I've been beat. I will say that this belongs in a different forum. Either an off-topic thread or General Hobby Discussion. This is supposed to be reserved to Space Marines, but everybody makes mistakes.

The major problem with RAW is that people who didn't play much in third edition seem to not fully understand that terminology and style in the RAW of 3rd ed is distinctly different than in 4th
This causes problems when you try to read the really old codexs which were written by those who used old wording styles.. They dont quite fit with 4th edition rules or the newer codexs
DE, Orks and IG are all good examples of this

Rules As Intended.
This is when people follow the 'spirit' of the rules - like not ruleslawyering for fleeting jetbike mounted autarchs, or genestealer cultist champions.
