I'm a new 40k player (just finished painting my IG battleforce) and I want to add some WH allies because my sister said she would learn to play if I got some WH/SOB figures and if she liked the game she would buy them from me, that plus seraphims look damn cool anyways, my question was: what should I get to maximise the power of my force, I only have the battleforce and two shock troops squads so i could go in any direction with this army.
Just get a bunch of sisters.
Really, basic battle sisters are a good place to start. They fit the shooty theme of the guard well, despite that they tend to do better with Rhinos.
Also, I'd look into Seraphim, they're very powerful. I'd wager that they might be the best Sister unit in the codex. They've got CC punch, and have access to some nifty weapon options. These would fill in the CC gap you have when playing Guard.
thanks, I think I'll be getting some serahs then, the CC is needed badly, cause my friend plays a CSM khorne army and he has nearly all zerkers so when I play him he just tears me up in melee.
Also one word of advice when your getting SoB allies is always buy the book of st lucius on your sarges. It will be the best buy you can get on those squads as it keeps your guardsmen from running for the hills. In my list basically all of my sister units have them and they are very nice for an IG army.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

Seraphims are great in a IG army, their hit-n-run comes to its best.
Enemy cc unit moves close enough for a charge next turn. The gaurds shoots with all they got. Your Seraphims jump into close combat with the enemy firing guns and flamers on the way and stays in combat till the end of your enemys cc round where the seraphim makes a run for it and it is again possible to shoot with your gaurd. If the enemy would still be standing then you can simply make an other charge.
Well, you did say WH so it does not have to be sisters. I run zealots with grenade launchers and three evicerators lead by a priest, an INquisitor and a Callidus along side my IG. I will add penitent engines and flagellants if points allow. When I run sisters I run them in my fast attack as a squad of dominions in an immolater - they work well against troops - you should have anti-tank anyway.
Now, IMHO, if you really want the best allies for IG nothing beats Deathwatch with a libby as they DS right in and do some major damage but that's inquisition not really WH.
Deathwatch is super pricey though...
