My main 2 opponents are necrons then lots of nids but i know how to deal with them... what i would like help on is a viable stratagey on besting the necrons. My big fear is that their longest ranged weponry is on their fastest movers, (dosent that seem CHEAPPPPPPPPP), then my next fear is of flyaeds, and then the Ctan.
please put my fears to rest, and help me save my boys in purple .
Flayed one's can be handled by an assault squad or two. Just make sure to get the charge. Throw a chaplain in for good measure and that'll dice up any of those buggers.
"The internet perceives censorship as damage, and routes around it."
The problem is if you're using all your missiles or lascannons on the destroyer its fairly difficult to take down the c'tan.. Atleast in smaller games
If he's using all those absurdly expensive units then all you need to do is kill a few.. C'tan will take 3 turns to get to you probably so for atleast 1 turn focus on destroyers and then you need to either fall back away from the c'tan or kill it in 2 turns.. Once in CC the nightbringer will kill everything you have
He can pretty much take down 3 blood thirsters on his own based on his stats and resilience so dont even try to engage him in CC
Focus fire on immediate threats, do not split fire because doing 1 wound to 3 things with 3 wounds each means he still has the same # of firepower.. Where as doing 3 wounds to 1 thing reduces his firepower by 33% (I realize destroyers dont have 3 wounds, its just a statement)
Im under the assumption that your using marines, if it wer me with the trsuty old nurgle throw in a token unit of 7 troops agains the c'tan, who im also assuming to be the nightbringer and asp champ with plague sword and strength take him down no probs
any who, with my Blood angels i never had a problem with necs or not much of one, to contend with that ctan a nit of 10 snipers rocks, he can be toughness whatever and it dosnt matter, his down side is his 4+ and therefore if you give him 6 saves a turn from snipers hes done for faster than rockets and las, which are then freed up for those damned destroyers.
Furthermore the destrotyers are comprable to Space marine midrange to long range fire and I always found as you probably already know necs suffer greatly at the hands of close combat and terminators!! the two go hand in hand, atleast one unit of termies with 2 assault cannons is a must, if you can, as i played bloood angels a squad of assault termies rocks too, the extra move helped when they raged. or deepstrike either sq they just decimate.
to go with that my HQ was always a chaplain with jump pack and 2x ligntning claws with the death company, however if our not playing BA that would work just as well just give him some backup with bikes or jump marines maybe a tele homer to get your assault cannon termies showing up.
in any event a chaplain is a must even if you just give him termie armour which is cheaper than giving him a 2+ save and termie honours or is it the same? i forget now i sold my BA a year or so ago.
for me when facing necs a nasty trick was facing 2 destroyer lords one with an orb and the both of htem coming back every time with a chance of it being with all 3 wounds along with a unit of 10 scarab bases, those little buggers chew through tanks like nothing, not to mention the hold up my deadly unit factor. with this in mind destroyers and c'tan went down the list of high priority targets, although of corse you cant have 2 destroyer lords with a c'tan as well, but you get my point.
destroyers just take 2 turns of heavy shooting and a c'tan 2 turns of sniper fire to take out.
Its the necron player that looks past the obvious strategies and further into the limitations of his codex and how to use a lith properly along with the stats and powers of his destroyer lords that you need to worry about.
hope this helps you out a tad

What are the Necron's weaknesses?
1. Slow Initiative - Use close combat specialists
2. Clustered troops - Plasma Cannons
3. Fixed armies - Get his codex and study it
4. Phase Out - Forget the ctan and kill robots
I am also building an anti-necron army and I wish I had the money for two vindicators. Those large blasts do wonders on robots.
For kicks you might try drop-podding in your HQ next to his troops. Use a terminator command squad with two assault cannons. Your characters should cut them up like butter.

Here's a quick look at my list I've had the enjoyment of playing against necrons.
2x 10 assault squads with plasma and fists
2x 10 tac squads w/pods 2 meltas each and powerfists
2x 6 tac squads w/plasma cannons
2x 6 tac squads w/lascannons
2x dreads with fist, assualt cannon, and h flamer, podded
The assault troops make their way to killing destroyers, lords, and flayers. The smaller tac squads concentrate fire on a single unit of warriors until they are gone, then move on to the next. Vindicators help the tac squads. The drop pods come in where needed the most at the time. I ignore monoliths but never had the chance to fight a big boss like c'tan or night bringer, the same would apply to them as does the monolith, ignored. I've had great success with this list against necrons, well everything for that matter, phase out by turn 3 is my record so far.
Your problem is your overabundance of vehicles that need to be within 24" to shoot.. Necrons tear any vehicle within 24" apart and so they're fairly ineffective vs them. Id simply drop the vehicles or use ones with more range
Thats *alot* of points that just get killed by gauss weapons
It's true.. Necrons destroy vehicles like there was no tomorrow.
Marines squads are best at cutting down the blighters I reckon.
Vidicators fire first and rip big holes the squad. Followed by tac squads with their bolters, lascannons and plasma cannons. Most of the time the squad is mostly wiped out by the vindicators and only one or two tac squads are needed to finish them off. Then the other tac squads can start on the next unit, softening them up for the next salvo. And that's not even taking into account the podders.
I can't, or won't, just drop the vehicles or change the list at all really. This is my take-on-all list, not just an anti-MEQ setup.
An overabundance of vehicles? I only have the two vindicators, well the 2 dreads are vehicles too, I guess. Still that's hardly an 'overabundance'.
My 'problem' as you put it, really isn't much of a problem, I've played 6 games against necrons since the new year and I haven't lost yet, several close calls though. The teleporting lord with a squad of warriors is hard to account for, they can do a lot of damage, I think I've lost the most number of vindicators that way.
