a quick question:
why isn't gaunt used more? he doesn't seem to expensive and his rules are pretty powerfull, stick this guy in a unit of storm troopers and rock 'n roll! I must be missing something...?
because he has a rule that hemust head always to the closest occuring close combat involving imperial guard
wouldn't that just make 'em a good counter unit with some stormies?
I've tried em out, and I agree that he's a good deal for his points. Definitely packs a punch.
I'm just not a big fan of using special characters. If I had a fluffy "Gaunt's Ghosts" army or whatever it is, then I'd use him... but it doesn't really make any sense for him to be leading every IG detachment in the galaxy.
Oh no! They scrapped the google-eyed smilie! :realmad:
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
I agree with the above, but i also don't have the model, it's just ridiculously priced. I'd want to field him, and a few others, as allies thatd be good. The only problem is the 'no second set of doctrine allies' rules. With a priest I could see him doing rather well.
Is he allowed in tournies? I have a feeling not and that may e a reason less would have him in their lists.
PS, My friend has the model and i have some blood pact so theres another reason! Also its very hard to convert ghosts. The catachan versions are just, well, too bulky, compared to the metal ones, which are also more expensive.
In most of the GW GT tournaments they allow all special characters as long as they don't break any of the force organization rules (i.e. if the character is restricted to 2000 pt. or higher games and the GT's are all 1750 pt games, then you obviously cant use him).
The only reason I don't use him is because he doesn't fit the fluff of my army...he doesn't really fit the fluff of any IG army other than a Tanith 1st and Only. He does look pretty solid though.
My 40K Armies:
- Thousand Sons
- Mordian Imperial Guard
- Dark Eldar
My Fantasy Armies:
- Lhamian Vampire Counts
One reason not to use him is he is so vulnerable to powerfists that against most close combat squads he will not make it past one round of combat. Pitty as i really enjoy reading about gaunts adventures and would love it if he could hold out longer.
