Does anybody use schaeffer because i believe i have a perfect combonation for instant death (quite literally). Feel free to correct me and sorry in advance for any mistakes:
By having his last chancers all tooled up with 16 characters, they will have 48 powerweapon attacks per turn. 2 base + 1 for additional close combat weapon (21 pts including a power weapon). Add a priest w/ a holy relic which brings you up to 516 pts(W/ schaeffer and kage). Now that might seem a lot, but w/ the holy relic revealed it brings you up to 64 powerweapon attacks and you get to re-roll any failed hits (Priest special rule, note:only on the charge). O wait, plus the last chancers automatically pass morale checks and dont forget schaeffer's attacks with kage too. It seems very valuable to me, but add some input as i should soon put this plan into action against tau or B.A.
Next how does this sound. Deep striking last chancers w/ demolition packs? Input please.Oh yeah, the power weapons mean instant death on Crons and I3 beats I2 (Duh) so here again they are valuable.
So to sum it up, gimme input please and i would highly suggest schaeffer to any I.G. commander who wishes to get 2 troop choices and an HQ. Thanks
look there guardsmen with T3 S 3 and WS 3. Why in the blue hell woudl you want them in close combat when the guys cost +16pts. There is a reason why there BS4 and that reason is to give them guns and shoot. It is a total waste to have the whole 20 men(22 if you count kage and Schaeffer) as a hth unit. Give most guns and have Schaeffer as a counter attack.

yes, they do have an impressive BS of 4, but against most armies, the guard will most likely get charged. now 7 lascannons is nothing to be skoffed at but at 439 points? come on. remember each heavy weapon must have a last chancer ammo holder (non-speacialist). so 7 shots per turn, so on average 3-4 enemies will die. But when that inevitable period comes when the guard gets charged, those lascannons loss their advantage on the battle field. Relying on shaeffer to fend of a counter attack is highly inneffective. 3+ to hit and a 5+ to wound on the average s.m. is not too great, but when a whole swarm of last chancers hit on a 4+ and a 5+ to wound is very nice, especially ignoring the armor saves and special saves (wbb and feel no pain). It seems very beneficial. Thanks for your advice though
Well, I've said it before and I'll probably say it every time I see a CC IG army. It's just not gonna work like you are hoping it will. Yeah, you'll charge a unit and get an ungodly amount of powerweapon attacks (Most of which won't even hit with a WS of 3) and you might even wipe out the unit that you charge. However, any decent opponent will have a couple units nearby to counter your charge and wipe out the pathetic CC guardsmen with their higher Inititive, better WS, better ST, and charge bonus. With an armor save of 5+, maximum 4+, this unit won't last too long. Heck, with the new vehicle rules they probably wouldn't ever even make it into CC cause they would get shot to death first; at least against an opponent who knows what to shoot at.
To make the best use of Schaeffers troops, you have to give them something big and nasty to SHOOT. Give them Plasma guns, Lascannons, Melta Guns and let them wreak havoc on those poor 3+ armor save people.
btw, all my talk comes from playing 40k since about '92 and I've been playing IG for a large part of that time. I really know what I'm saying here. There USED to be a time where IG could hold their own in CC, however that time has passed ever since 3rd edition came out.
well alright, shooty it is. Thanks for the info
