hi all, firstly i'd like to thank all of you for allowing such a n00b to post here and secondly as a new player i'd love to hear all of your opinions about imperial guard and as well any tips you could throw in would be greatly appreciated. I started collecting warhammer about 4 weeks ago and my primary adversary plays as tau, he heavily utilises drones, stealth suits but, the backbone of his army is his broadside battle suits and i need a good combat doctrine to counter his army. From the getgo i realised that it would be best for me to lurk around in the shadows and stay out of sight due to his long range so i've building an army based on large amounts of infantry and artillery. My stratgey is simply to use artillery to take out the majority of his infantry then swarm his vehicles and battlesuits with a lot of infantry with demolisher support.
As well my tau friend has something called seeker missiles and he said that they do not require any line of sight in order to engage my units and they dont need to be lit up either, now i may be new to this game but i dont believe that's entirely correct, is it? i mean i cant help but think thats real unfair if he can launch countless amount of missiles at every one of my units, regardless of where they are on the battlefield. All in all again i'd like to thank you all for comments and below is a few pictures of my army, sadly not many of the models are painted but in time they all will be, feel freed to critise my painting scheme, painting job, army choice ect. Thank you
(in photo) Army list is as follows:
3X Lascannon teams
3X Heavy bolter teams
3X Mortar teams
1X Command Squad
1X Karskin squad (9 models + 1 Seargent)
2X normal cadian troops (each unit has only 6 models but i'll buy more)
1X leman russ demolsher
oh btw, im planning on expanding by acquiring many more troops, another bombard and another demolisher

1) I dont know much about the tau missiles. I woudl post this question in the rules forum to get a better answer. (although someone here may be able to shed light on your dilema)
2) Nice models you have. Forgeworld already! Man I have 1 forgworld model lol. If there are any closeups of the painted models you may wan to post them int he painting thread for some advice.
3) Its difficult to see what you have form the photos, so an amry list posted in the amry list area would be a good idea, That way we could help refine your choices.
4) Your tactics seem sound but id suggest (form the photos) that you buy some more infantry! A basilisk would also be a good investment.
As far as generic advise goes there isnt really much because there are so many options available to a guard player. Have a look around the amry list section to get an idea of what is and what isnt a good army setup. For tactics a quick browse of this section should be helpful though it seems your basic tactic is good. If you post your list up we can help you refine what you need and your tactics with your choices.
One thing I will say thought is to use deepstrike. That and the combo of indirect artillery menas his suits cant hide. For the deepstriking squads use vets with meltas or plasma (plasma is the better option here). Stormies are ok at this but they carry less weapons cost more and their armour will just be bypassed!
Hope that helps
Thanks Commisar, i was planning on getting some deep strike but i'm hesitant because im wondering if i am allowed to use a valkyrie and elysian drop troops rather than a chimera, and i now have the army list on the first post as requested
I advise reading up on the Tau Codex before the game. Then I advise you to tell your friend to do the same.
Seeker Missiles are one shot weapons, and a vehicle may only hold so many. The maximum amount of Seeker Missiles will be twice the amount of vehicles, with a few more if he's running a Skyray. They are not free.
He was right about not needing Line of Sight - Seeker Missiles are infinite range and can fire around buildings or over hills, whatever. However, there is a To-Hit roll involved, and each Seeker Missile fired requires the expenditure of a Markerlight Counter.
Oh, and welcome to LO. Glad to have you aboard. Cute name, too. Heh.
ah i see, so all i need to know about these missiles and marker light weapons are in the codex, figures lol and i was wondering if you could tell me how powerful are these missiles, i mean, can they take out my bombards in the back?
Troops. Lots of troops. We like troops. A basalisk is also a good idea seeing as, they're amazing. Looks like you've got a decent amount of units so far but you REALLY need more troops. A minimal standard army has to have 40 of them anyways, because of the platoon system. Or you could go conscripts. Or armored fist. Whatever you want.

The Devils Rejects (Imperial Gaurd Specialist Force) are... UNDEFEATED.
i love you too man but the reason its large for the amount of time i've been playing is due to the fact that all of my friends have been playing for years and already have large armies so i need to play catch up in a sense lol, my tau friend's army is massive, he bought a tiger shark like 2 years ago so i'm far behind.
