Over our long weekend I played about 8 - 10 games of CoD, although the majority of them were just 'annihilate all enemy forces' ones.
Now as luck would have it 75% of them were against Berserker heavy lists with either a DP or Kharn The Betrayer, or just for fun both.
In the early games I took a mix of IST's in Chimeras, GK's, BC, and Dreads.
The Chimera's in the first 2 games were either immobilized or destroyed 1st turn, which in turn either forced disembarking or killed them.
I became a bit desperate so went GK heavy for the next couple of games, but lack of LoS and poor shooting, plus s#*tloads of cover meant the Berserkers, who frenzied a hell of a lot for movement, were always on me turn 2 or 3 just ate me up in c/c - chainaxes are no fun.:x
The only games i came close to winning at all were when I took plenty of GKT's as a retinue for my GM, Assassins, Dreads, and lone Inq. I tried to stay out of assault range so I could shoot longer, but it didn't work (see above).
The GM was brilliant - in 1 game he lasted 3 rounds of c/c with both the DP, Kharn, and a squad of 8 Berserkers before losing his 3 wounds. He took 6 wounds off the DP and Kharn as well.
Please - someone give me suggestions/list that will help against World Eaters especially.
Oh! forgot to mention that we played Gamma level terrain - 6 buildings, but some of them were huge, 24" x 24", 24" x 18", and Catwalks as well. So veeeerry dense terrain.
This is a good thing! GKs/DH do very well with lots of cover. CoD games are my highest winning percentage (to date, I've only lost two CoD games). The key, as always, is not to play DH as the aggressor. You can see 6" into buildings, so shoot those stormbolters! And stay in cover! If you are going to be assaulted, stay put so, at the very least, you get to go simultaneously. And don't stay on the ground floors, either. Make 'zerkers climb up the building to get you. You still get the benefits of being assaulted in cover, and you usually buy yourself an additional round or two of shooting. If you continue to take chimeras and dreads, put them in the way of the assaulting troops, so even if they blow up they still serve a good, defensive purpose.Originally Posted by Diddlysquad

Have you considered the medicae facility? If you are playing an aggressive opponent, this will keep your GKs alive for an unbelievable amount of time. The last CoD game I played, I had two 8-man squads, dug into a medicae facility, hold up 1200 pts of space marines for the entire length of the game just because of the medicae facility. (Yes, only one squad per turn got to benefit, but it was more than enough. It sent my opponent into fits because it screwed up his desired firing patterns, and the rest of my army was free to annihilate him. And I still had both GK units scoring at the end of the game! One was at 2 models, the other 4.)
Just remember that controlling line of sight is something you can do, too!
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Thanks for the reply.
You mentioned 'if' I continue to take Chimera's, so are you perhaps suggesting that in CoD my IST's should hoof it?
Hmmm, will try the Wrecker Strategem next time.
The major contributing factor to my losses was the bad dice rolling. One time I charged his Berserkers because my shooting wasn't effective, and i rolled 24 'to hit' dice and achieved,
wait for it, 6 3's and up. That was the norm the whole bloody weekend:cry:
Also, when I said I used Assassins, it was DCA's, as I left my Eversor at home in my other case. So I gave myself an uppercut for that one.
with that lone inquistor you could get a lance strike to keep those beskers out of cover a bit of a cheese fest but it works, i would take fortifications nice amount of cover for your smaller force and if enemy wants to charge they have to strike last!
One thing I find with COD is that Incenerators, Orbital Strikes and that stratagem that destroys a keyed in building (sorry forgot the name) are very handy. The stratagem and orbital strike really play with peoples heads and screw with their game plans.. not to mention kill people and intangle them. Also keeps shooters at bay and can take away key objectives.
Much must be risked in war.

I played my DH in CoD quite effectively. I take quite a lot of GK, and stay pretty defensive. SO I hide in buildings, receiving the charges mostly. As already said, when climbing up building, you can buy yourself time, and when you do get charged, you receive most of the time less attacks then when you whould be on open field.
When I get a chance, I pop out with all the GK, and just Bolter Spam my opponent to submission, which works against almost everything that walks. I don't have much anti tank, often only a Seraphim squad and a flying Cannones, which are also in hiding.
And Medicae is really really great for a full PAGK squad. I survived an onslaught of Korhne Beserkers once, once because of that thing

I play lot of CoD games and this summer league I am in is CoD again. What the rest have said already is good information. I would suggestion is pick the right stratagems for the mission you are going to play and the ones that suit your play style. My favorite is Preliminary Bombardment and Sewer Rats. Xilconic touched on a good idea about putting your men in the upper levels of a building. I will have to try that this league. The biggest thing to remember about CoD is to play to are strengths and keep the mission in mind.
Why use science and education when ignorance and superstition will work just as well.
Thanks for all the advice.
I'll take on - board what's been relevent, and keep at it.
as others have said in CoD we rule use the cover well and use the stratagems well.
Chaos is a decison not a life
Yes its absolutely essential to stay in cover as it has obvious effects in combat, along with the medica facility strategem. And it provides protection for your grey knights and stormies.
But its also important to clear outbuildings. deny your opponet that coversave he wants by destroying terrain with preliminary bombardment and similiar strategems.
And finnally as stated above keep your eye on the objective. Sure your army can suffer a bit but if you keep your eye on the prize you will have a better chance at winning than your opponent hell bent on killing you pretty grey knights.
