Hey all, im looking into doing a SM force that uses traits and SOB allies (fluff reasons). They service the emperor and no one else and hate chaos filth and witches. The traits i was planning on using where Purity above All and Honour your Wargear. I plan on using alot of plasma weapons in the tactical squads and then let the dev's go tank/big unit hunting. Thats why the use of PaA is probably going to come in handy, plus i think apothecaries are one of the coolest models around. These force is going to be very very shooty. Drawback are Eye to Eye and Have Faith in Suspicion. Id like to have chaplain lead (fluff again). Then take a unit(s) of SOB and Sniper Scouts in troop section. Seeing how alot of points are going towards heavy weapons and such i figure that using SOB would save a couple points and are still able to lay down alot of bolter fire. This force is mostly being done for fluff and what id like to see on the board. Now my questions: 1) Can you see this type of force be able to atleast handle its own against most assault races or does the lack of counter assault put it at to high a risk. 2)Since im using a shooty army is it best to use Eye to Eye or Flesh over Steel. 3)Which of the legions does this force sound the most like/which has the closet ties to the SOB. 4) With its lack of speed could objective missions become a serious problem? 5) Could you see a SM force like this or does it seem to strangle to work?
Any comments are welcome. Once my above questions are answered ill get the whole fluff write up finished i just want to make sure that the force is set before i do. Thanks
How'd you plan on only using one troop-choise; the sniper scouts...the SoB doesn't count towards minimum unit req. unless you play a witchunter army, but then you can't use traits.
I would imagine getting a Tactical squad with something.
I think it could work, nobody likes plasma supported by AP1 bolters.
If you call it a Missile launcher, then it'll never hit anything.
100% of people who aren't Karmoon know Saraneth is invincible.
i was planning on putting in 2 tactical squads to start since only tactical squads can make use of the apothecaries. Then ya sniper scouts and some sisters probably 2 squads then leave the last one open for more tacts. I just didnt want to be like most other forces and have 6x 5-10 man tact squads with the plasma las combo. I just think that sisters would be a better choice when supported by SM heavy weapons
BTW, I LOVE your fluff and I think the army would be awesome to play. You could add some rhinos to give you mobility...
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Thanks for the comments and keep them coming.
Ya for sure power armor is what SM so useful. If i plan to fill the organization chart (which i do) im thinking 1 squad of scouts, 2 tacts, 2 SOB, then leave the last one open for w/e i feel like. I was talking with some people and they suggested i expand my fluff to show how the bond with the chapter and SOB's started. I was thinking saying something along the lines of the chapter helped the sisters defend a shrine or something, then when the chapter was in some huge conflict they took heavy losses and the sisters came to the rescue. Maybe thats how the bond started. Now the chapter and the sisters work together to hunt witches and do the emperors will. Something along those lines. Maybe that explains the lack in tactical marines. Can you guys/girls see this happening? I dont know how close the bond with SOB + SM is already or even could be...I also thought if this was the story i went with it might explain the extra apoths as well. Having a lack of Battle Brothers and the need to get every gene-seed they can?
Your fluff is plausible and nice. I enjoy your idea.
