I'm considering making my IG (which I'm sculpting right now) mechanized. Can anyone give me tactical advice on using them?
If you think Mathammer doesn't work and dice cannot be predicted, there's a whole field of mathematics called probability that would like to disagree.
Mechanized Army ?
I'd suggest searching the forums - there's loads of stuff on the subject.

As an avid mechanized commander, I would be more then happy to provide a little insight of my experiance with mech army.
First thing to keep in mind, and the largest setback, is man power. in a mech army your body count is low. You can expect to field as many men in 1500 points as a space marine player, but without the survivability. But, it is not in vain! For this, you can expect to field between 3 and 5 chimeras AT LEAST! The humble chimera is a workhorse, and can take a lot more punishment than folks give it credit for. ANd the fire power it cam push out is devestating, even to marines. When battling my brotherm who plays chaos, he is more afraid of my chimeras then the 2 russ, because of this fire power.
You will have a load of anti-infantry weapons, between multilasers, heavy bolters, battlecannons, inferno cannons, and this just from your tanks. YOu should equip your men for tank hunting, because your tanks won't be able to, and because of the mech rule, you won't be able to rely on support squads becauase they have to take chimeras to, and it is not cost effective.
we do lose the ability to infiltrate anything except ratlings and storm troopers, because of the mech rule, but a few scouting sentinals can really put the enemy on the defensive early, dedicating valuable anti-tank weapons todestroy the potentially heavily armed menace and away from your true strength, the chimeras and your battle tanks.
Your tanks need support though, because in a assault from any close combat unit your tanks are going to go bye-bye, so be sure to keep your lads ready to face any foe in hand to hand.
At the moment that is all I can say, but I would be happy to answer any questions that you have regarding mechanized tactica.
