I am trying to make a Chaos Renegade army using the Imperial Guard list... and I thought "hey, hardened fighters sounds like a really cool doctorine, WSX for all my basic troops is quite a step towards a rather different army in itself because it's quite a big change to an army."
Then I saw that it costs +X points for a squad!!! I'm assuimg that means for each 10 men I have? So one troops choise would be X = X points...
That REALLY adds up in a complete army, pointswise. I am wondering is it truly worth it? Maybe they should reduce the costs? I mean it would be totally fluffy but I don't want more points on each unit than a single heavy bolter costs...
is it worth it?

A Tau Ethereal was thought to have been killed today by a Bloodthirster. However, many Tau were seen fleeing the scene and are considered suspects.
MisterDutch, only you can decide whether it's really worth it for you, however I think most people will agree NO! :p
One thing I will say for it is that unlike special equipment, it can be taken on some squads and left off others, so you might sometimes want it on a tooled up command squad, a Sentinel or maybe an armoured fist squad etc. But generally speaking, leave this at home!
Most of your opponents that engage you in hth will be WS 4.
If you have normal guard WS, you will hit them on a 4+.
If you take hardened fighters, you still only hit them on a 4+.
The only real bonus is that they no longer hit you quite so easily. But its only a reduction of about 25% effectiveness on their part. On the face of it, there are many, better doctrines out there for you to use.
Fluff wise, however, it could be pretty awesome. And it will still be useful in some situations.
"Pickles, the drummer, doodily doo. (Ding-dong, doodily, doodily, doo.)"
Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
Hardened Fighters is only really useful if you field allot of sentinels. I do, so Its one of my regiment’s 'rotating doctrine queue'.
