Greetings to all,
I am brand new to this board, daemonhunters, and 40K. First, because of noobieness I apologize in advance if I offend any diehard GK fans out there for my username. I admit, just like the masses I was attracked to 40k by the space marines. Once I saw the GKs however, well thats why i've joined this board, from the posts i've read you all seem to have a good grasp and appreciation for GK army.
I plan on only running pure GK. Not interested in IG or SM for that matter anymore. I must say though having the ability to field LRCs and dreadnoughts is quite appealing!
Well on to my question, after a few days I have finally caught on that a brother captain is the sergeant of the terminator box, I searched ebay up and down looking for the "brother captain". One thing is still got me puzzled, where can I locate a "grandmaster". It seems that some use the "Stern" model as the grandmaster, is that tournament legal? Or is there another model out there I have missed?
ok, good question. any terminator in the Grey Knight Terminator box can serve as the brother captain or the grandmaster. you may want to put on extras to distinguish him from the rest of the squad.
I use the Stern Model, but you can use anything modded really in Terminator armour.
"A love for tradition has never weakened a nation, indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
Sir Winston Churchil
So these two approaches are tournament legal?
Really any model that looks diffrent will do. I have a termy with a psycannon and I use that as a brother captain. The only differences between my terminator models is the very large gun mounted on my BC's arm.
PS: But just so you know you still have to model the character reflecting as much of his wargear as possible.
In the rule book, on page 5, it says:
"The most important rule about playing games of Warhammer 40K is to have fun!"
Well it seems that the stern model would be the best choice, seeing that he is after all a GK! So if I field him as a GM in a tournament I would run into any trouble, right? I just have to notify all that he is in fact a GM not stern, right?
The simple fact that GW does not produce a GM model means that it's up to you to come up with your own solutions!
There are just a few guidelines:
>He must be wearing Terminator Armour.
>He must have the equipment you're giving him modelled on him. So, if he's packing a Daemonhammer, it had better be on there, in one form or another!
>Ideally, he should look fairly similar to the rest of the GK's - they do have a pretty distinctive general "feel" to them... You don't actually have to do this, though.
>Ideally, he should be distinctive enough that an opponent doesn't mistake him for just another GKT. In other words, he should look fancier than the rest. Again, this one is not absolutely necessary.
And that's it. So long as he's a Termie, and follows the rules as pertains to wargear and representation and such, you can do pretty much anything you want and nobody has any right to complain!
Having said that, the simplest options are either using the Stern model (fits the bill, looks cool enough to be a GM, my personal favorite), or adding extra detailing to a standard GKT model.
I just bought a gkt with psycannon, and then gave him an awesome robe / cloak over his armor just so everyone knows they are about to be another tally on his personal kills record sheet.
incase anyone cares it is as follows:
1 hive tyrant
3 SM chappies
6 daemon princes
1 keeper of secrets
1 ( other eldar hero, forget the name )
2 tau commanders
4 ork bosses
He has had 3 deaths.
Got to love a str 6 force weapon.

- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
I have seen the Marneus Calgar and the Lysander Minis used to represent a GM.
Just grind off the iconography, add a GK arm/weaponry and you're sweet.
Another one i've seen is the new Terminator Librarian, just with GK arm/weaponry.
Can't see GW having any problem with it.
Much must be risked in war.
