OK, i'm playign 1750 against my buddy who plays 'nids. Any idea on how i should build my list? Are GK terminators even worth considering since he is heavy on the light weight stuff, like genestealers and hormogaunts?
Normally yes, against the nids... no.
Though I like a GM as its fun to go carnifex killing
Those points are best invested in GK's who with more numbers can shoot more and have more wounds...
Rending cares not for armour saves.
Much must be risked in war.
Blood Angel Stormraven Conversion Work In Progress.
GK termies are always worth it. Except against 'nids like Luke Harvey said.
Just for for more GK to pump out those storm bolter shots.
"I am the architect of fate!"
I can see your dilemna, here. Normally it's advised that it's okay to take GKT's in a battle over 1500pts but if you face a swarm then it makes things harder to choose from. People always worry that you won't get your save with GKT's with rending but your much more likely to get your invulnerable save than he is to hit with it. The main problem is just being out-numbered, but hey, aren't we all use to it anyway?
How many Genestealers does he plan on taking anyway? Just a unit or two or are they his main troop choice?
If you're looking for other suggestions, I'd suggest 2 or 3 Dread's with Assault Cannon's & CCW in lieu of Termies...good anti-horde killing, and can do well against some of the larger Nids.
A smaller squad of termies can be a godsend against nids. First they will can take down the big baddies in CC, and second you can equipt the squad with two psycannons that can move and shoot at full range. If you go overboard you are going to be in trouble, but a small squad to shoot genestealers with AP4 guns, and high strength power weapons to take down the flyrant or the fexes that get a little too close isn't bad to have.
The problem is avoiding genestealers and warrios in hand to hand, If you can do it you should be fine, if you can't you really are going to take some damage.
They are definitely worth it. and do wonder against everything save dreadnoughs.
Genestealer are design to against terminator and marine armour in general, all you can do is just shoot them to oblivion before CC.
I dont see gaunts as trouble for GK terminators, unlike other terminators, GK can use holocause, and burn them wholesale in CC.
GK terminators are probably the most worthly unit DM army offer. compare with all other versions of SM/CSM terminators, GK have W5 s6, power weapon that strike at i4, with strom bolter/psycannon/incinaror to shoot, and free to exchange any model for thunder hammer and strom shield to anti monsterous creature/dreadnoughs/waithlords.
Marine Terminators offer only pairs of lighting claws or thunder hammer and strom shield which cant shoot or powerfist and strombolter that strike last in CC. Chaos terminators have power weapons, but only str 4. All of above hit on ws4. and point costs are similar.
The only advantage Marine Terminators have is allow carry assult cannon, but must combine with powerfist that strike last , chaos chosen terminators's advantages are marks, but that make them even more expensive.
I believe GK terminators are the best version of Terminators in the 40k universe.
I've always had good success with a GM + 3-4 GKT's, all vanilla. Obviously if you've the points, psycannons could be handy, though I've always stuck with storm-bolters. The only thing I give my GM is holocaust. You can crisp a lot of 'nids with this power, and the high-strength power-weapon attacks at normal initiative are a Godsend against monstrous creatures. If you do end up fielding a GM, I highly highly recommend holocaust. He's got the wounds to soak up any stray Perils attacks, and oftentimes you don't have the luxury of choosing who you're in an assault with (those lil' jumpy-'nids with the 12" charge range are a pain). So I guess I fall into the pro-GKT camp on this one =).
Anyhoo, good luck to you!

If you're intruiged by doctors who are also ninjas, then this is the webcomic for you!
depends on the situation, others have already said that nids eat termies for breakfast so not good for that type of enemy but against the right enemy like tau or chaos then hell yeah i think there worth it.
Chaos is a decison not a life
vs nids I take a grandmaster with psycannon and holocaust, and just try to shoot down all the stealers you can before cc. but if you are gonna get in cc with stealers a trick i do is have my GM join the squad of PAGK that is gonna get attacked and kinda place him with a line of PAGK in front of him this way you can avoid being attacked ( IC rule ) but use holocaust to kill a few of them. Also cause he can be so usefull for taking down fexes.
