Welcome to Librarium Online!
So Ive been meaning to start a WH list for like 2 years and I think Im gonna finally get around to it. Anyway, Ive been toying around with the idea of running a cannoness on her own with the cloak of st. aspira or whatever it is and then using the act of faith that makes he armor save an invulnerable (giving her a 2+ invl. save). Has anyone ever used this to good effect or is it one of those things that awesome on paper but not so hot on the table?
Actually, its one of the things that makes an otherwise unimpressive leader amazing. It probably appears in every army list and it allows her to go it alone with character killers and win.
Yes I have used it, and also used the same Act of Faith on St. Celestine to make her nigh invulnerable to harm.
"The sword that takes life gives life."
I think that the 2+ Invul save on your HQ IS the most used Act of Faith in the whole WH army! Go for it (starting a new WH force) - you will love it!
Im happy to hear this works so well. Thanks.
That configuration is definately a good one.
Depending on your army size and your style of play you can run either 2 Cannonnesses, or 1 Cannonness and 1 Palantine.
Other good thoughts are to equip them with Jump-Packs and run either with, or behind your Seraphim squads.
I'm currently running St. Celestine and a Cannonness with a Jump-Pack and 2 full-size squads of Seraphim. Throw in 2 or 3 mounted troop squads and 2 or 3 exorcists and you're in business sister's style.
I agree that the cloak of saint aspira trick is awsome but with a blessed wepon and jump pack you make a speedy strong nigh invunerable killing machine
I would advise the Jump Pack as well, while she's alone it makes her fairly vulnurable to attacks so terrain hopping is quite advantageous not to mention she can get to combat quicker.
I've run this set-up a few times, each time she's done some heroic deeds giving the lead in the battle but ultimately she dies without support. She can do well but I would advise sending her some help without other fast moving units such as Seraphim. Note there are alot of of strength 6+ weapons out there and it only takes one wound to instant kill her.
The best time etched in my memory was when she was alone and a unit of Tau Drones Deep Stiked perfectly on top of her head killing the unit.
Cannonness is only 10 points more than the Palantine. I strongly suggest spendign the extra points as they are almost nothing compared to what upgrades they will get you... Might not be "fluffy" though to have two high-level commanders like that, unless you run two "separete" detachments coming from different monasteries or something... I usually play my second HQ as a lone survivor of some Chaos attack on her outpost - hence she runs straight at the enemy Repentia-style, disregarding any danger
