ok some of you may call this a stupid idea or some may say it is not enough.
Here is my plan to build an infantry regimen of guard of about 500 guardsmen that is 500 basic guardsmen not includeing command groups. There will also be a heavy weapon for every squad and a special. i will probably also include around 50 vetrans.
yes i know this project will take awhile and will probably take many years to finish.
So what do you all think
Do you play games that will let you use that many models?
well i like i said my plan will take years. and ounce i get them up to about 2500-3000 points i am going to do something else with my money and when i get extra cash i will buy a box of cadian. Yes ounce an if i get it finished the people i play with will let me do it .
500 basic guard is 3500 points and like i said i am taking vets and comman in 2500-3000 then just not spend money on it inless i have extra cash I am not stopping there thats just where all the major spending will end.500 basic guardsmen, not including Veterans or any upgrades at all is 3000pts alone.
If you're capping your army at 2500-3000pts then you need to rethink your gameplan
Oh an i am going to get started this weekend.
I hope you like to paint. I have close to 150 guardsmen not including HW teams, and it is well......disheartening to look at that many guardsmen and know you have to get them all painted. Not to mention storing them, transporting them, and deploying (if the table is big enough), and you want 500 plus vets, command and HW?
My big question is where are the tanks? no guard army is complete with out at least one tank, a basilisk maybe?
I would suggest that you stop around 200 tops including vets and command sections. I can't think of a time where I have deployed all my troops. There have been times where it gets close.
But hey its your time and money, and apparently you have more of both than alot of us, so do what you want, you asked for our thoughts, and here is mine.
Battlesuits, putting the BS in BullS*%t.
I would highly recommend buying and painting your army in segments, perhaps buy and paint 50 guardsmen before buying any more. Also, there are other toys in your toy box, you don't make an army out of 6 point guardsmen. Is this army just for display purposes or is it meant to be tactical on the field?
I'm with everyone else on this one - why 500? Why don't you just collect an all-infantry Guard army, and improve it as you go? I would recommend starting with a basic 1000-pt army, build it, paint it, and then start buying improvements for it, like more heavy weapons, some elite units, maybe some cool HQ people, etc. Work your way up to 1500, and before you know it you'll have 2000 pts.
The key is to take it in segments, and play lots of games as you go, get a feel for your army, and improve on it. Like Steel Legionaire said, if you have too many unpainted models at once, you are going to start losing your strength.... I'm currently having this problem with my Tyranid army - I only have 25 models to go, but I can't bring myself to paint a single gaunt more. I haven't touched them in weeks.
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
I'd reccomend you set your goal to create an army you can actually field without any hassle.
If you start with filling one FOC with as many infantrymodels possible you'd still have an impressive army.
You'll have 330 models in you troops section only, then adding heavy weapons as HS you'd get 69 more, You can field 35 as one HQ choice and 30 in your Elites. This would mean 464 models.
Then fill your FA with Rough Riders for an additional 30 models and get four advisors - 500 models in one FOC.
i remember an older WD (around 300) where this guy painted his own chapter... let me repeat that, HIS OWN CHAPTER! all of it!
and he didn't paint up something fun like space wolves... no, he painted a codex army... all in orange... that guy must've been mad. i don't think you'll pull it off, you'd have to be crazily commited, or just plain crazy
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.
