The Penguins are always watchin...................
I think that they were featured in an old White Dwarf. Which one, I don't know.
Go to Bolter & Chainsword, they're a forum dedicated to Space Marines, you may get a better response there.
Well, seeing as how they aren't blood angels, space wolves, black templars, or dark angles I would say they use the straight space marines list. You could take some traits that you feel apply to Legion of the Damned.
Turtles For the Turtle God!
Shells For the Shell Throne!
well I suppose they're just normal ghostly marines
maybe get the LotD minuatures at the online store
Create flames for a galaxy and it will be warm. Put a galaxy in flames and it will be warm for the rest of it's existence.

Sounds like its going to be one intresting army hhe:w00t:
The Penguins are always watchin...................
I had toyed with the idea of doing a LotD army (I get the urge to paint one up every once in a while anyway).
Here is an idea that I thought might accurately represent them:
This army list idea is based mostly off of the LotD army list that appeared in USWD#224 (waaaaaaaay back in 2nd edition) with just a few Cursed Founding tweaks.
This idea is not perfect and - legally - it would be difficult to make a 'perfect' list anyway. This would be pretty close though.
So - for those of you who do not have access to USWD#224 - here is the basic characteristics that represented the LotD at that time:
They were fearless - and caused fear.
They had early plasma weaponry (and no man-pack plasma cannons).
They could have Commander, Chaplain, Librarian and Techmarine characters.
Assault Squads had no jump packs.
They had access to Bike Squadrons, Land Speeders and Attack Bikes.
The only vehicles they had access to were Rhinos and Dreadnoughts.
No Terminators or Scouts.
Special Character - Sergeant Centurius (more later).
This is how it could be done:
Trait Advantages: Cleanse and Purify & Take the Fight to Them
Trait Disadvantages: Aspire to Glory & We Stand Alone
Why these traits?
The Legion of the Damned Assault Squads have no jump packs, but could take two special weapons. C&P + Take the Fight to Them allows Tactical Squads to be 'converted' into Assault Squads without jump-packs.
Aspire to Glory represents their limited resources and We Stand Alone represents ...well ... there is something about hanging around decomposing Space Marines.
How would the army work?
The Legion of the Damned appear out of nowhere (including their vehicles) so they would use the drop pod assault rules.
And the vehicles?
Rhinos would "count as" drop pods - they would mysteriously appear on the battlefield armed with a storm-bolter. No, they could not move (like I said - not perfect), but really don't need to since they will deploy their troops when they arrive.
Yes, a Rhino would mysteriously appear along with any Dreads that may be employed by the army (again - I said it wasn't perfect).
Their thicker armor? Again, not an ideal solution, but it could be rationalized by their somewhat etherial nature.
This brings up why these traits were chosen. It would have been easier to just remove the jump packs from Assault Squads, right? You bet.
However, how would these Marines deploy on the battlefield? They cannot legally take a drop pod. Legion of the Damned Assault Squads use Rhinos (reminder, based on the rules written in USWD#224) and the only way to represent this is to make the Tactical Squads into Assault Squads. The Assault Squads can also appear out of nowhere along with their transport if we do it this way.
Their fearless nature? Include a Master to lead the army. It may not make them fearless, but Ld10 is getting close.
Cause fear? Well, drop pod armies tend to do this anyway, right?
Speeders can Deep Strike, so they can appear out of nowhere as well.
Bikes - with their turbo-booste - can get to many places on the board anyway, so they can 'appear' too (again - not perfect).
Sergeant Centurius - yes, with his Animus Malorum, how could we represent him?
Someone mentioned using him as a Librarian a while ago in another forum - the psychic powers representing his special wargear.
I thought it was an excellent idea, so Sergeant Centurius with his Animus Malorum counts as a Codicier with either Storm of the Emperor's Wrath or Vortex of Doom as his power. While VoD may be more accurate, I am leaning towards SotEW for cost. Yes, there are some glitches there. No, he can't bring back a lost Legionaire and he is armed with a Force Weapon and he has two wounds. But it is better than nothing at all.
Give him a Command Squad - but don't upgrade the Sergeant and give him the same weapons as the other Marines so he doesn't stand out (after all, Centurius is the 'Sergeant' and we can't have two Sergeants in the same unit, can we?) or other special characters (except maybe an Apothecary to represent the Animus Malorum's 'resurrection' ability - and he is all set.
(As a side note: When Centurius was first introduced, he could have a 'special' squad consisting of five Legionaires with bolters and armed with up to two special weapons - this was at a time when no Tactical Squad could do this - be less than 10-strong and take two special weapons. This unit could be easily represented by the Command Squad.)
So those are my ideas for representing the Legion of the Damned circa USWD#224 using the current trait system.
I don't agree with those Traits at all to be honest.
The two "special" traits that the Legion had were the fact that they all had an Invulnerable save, and they could DS their entire army. Nobody cares about Assault Squads with two special weapons. I still say get the 6++ trait and Drop Pod the army.
