Hey all. I'm selling my 'nids army and am finally starting up those lovely grey knights. I DEFINATELY will not use allies, only a pure DH army for me. I would also like to limit the inquisitorial stuff as much as possible. Many of the people I am talking to though say that it will take a LONG time to start getting competitive with them. Now, I'm not gonna lie and say that I don't mind losing. i want a challenge, but I dont want to get it handed to me every game for a year. Juts wondering how long it took all if you to get to winning form with your puritan force or if you still havent. thanks a lot.
If you want, you can also take a look at my list(2000 pts). As I said, I am trying to just use grey knights but am open to change, though NO ALLIES. Here it is.
HQ: Grandmaster w/ master crafted NFW, Icon of the just
Retinue of 3 GK terminators, 1 incinerator
ELITES: 7 GK terminators
1 Brother captain
ELITES: 3 GK terminators, 1 incinerator
1 Brother Captain
TROOPS: 7 Grey Knights
TROOPS: 7 Grey Knights
FAST ATTACK: 7 Grey Knights, 2 incinerators
HS: LRC w/ psycannon bolts
HS: Dreadnought w/ TL lascannon and incinerator
TOTAL: 2000 points
I will basically DS everything that can DS except the 8 terminators which will hitch a ride in the LRC. Its very low on models i know, but what you think?
I have a Pure DH army. The first time that I played it was against a necron army, and I was wasted out of the gate. After that I went up against Chaos Beserkers who all had the collar of Khorne which made them very difficult, I lost. I then went against a Huge Orc army and kicked the crap out of them. Blood Angles were after this group and all that I can say is I flet bad after wards for destroying his whole army and only loosing a few of my own troops. Lately I played an 1800 point game against a Tau army. It was close but once I got themin close combat I walked through them like a hot knofe through butter, and won.
Know onto the advise. First I would eliminate the two extra termie units and max out the grey knights. Give the GM at least 5 Terminators one with a PCannon. Dont underestimate the power of the basic grey knight the are very tough in close combat. Points remaining I would definately add another teleport unit to the cause. I like the LRC and have played with one, but that was until I was introdueced to the Purgation Squad. That is a huge powerhouse. 5 GK w Psycannons, at 3 shots a turn thats 15 at 36" gotta love it. Basically find your niche in the way that you want to play them.
Good Lick and Welcome. Sorry So Long.
One of the hardest things to get over with Grey Knights is the temptation to load up on wargear. BC Storm is right; more Grey Knights in power armor are never a bad idea.
17 termies is more than you'll need. Make the HQ unit of them stronger and drop the other two squads. 10 less termies or so will let you bring in a lot more PAGK. Another fast attack squad, then maybe some psycannons on the Troop GK.
Oh, one more thing. I'm not exactly sure what the current rule say, but I'm pretty sure that Psycannons are limited to four Grey Knights in the Purgation Squad. I would give the Justicar some Melta Bombs, too.
No, Troop and FA GK can take 2 per squad as well.Originally posted by Brother-Captain Lucca Brazzi@Mar 1 2004, 103

For a 2k army I'd drop the extra termies and transform them into regular GKs (at least 1 psycannon in each group) and incinerators in the teleport squads. If you intend to make a 3k army, keep it as is and add 1000 points of GKs.
Inquisitors are fun and allow you to field some interesting support and specialist troops without swaying from the idea of a pure gk army. It's the inquisition they say what's pure lol.

I meant that I didn't think the Justicar in the Purg. Squad could take one, limiting you to four. I know any Grey Knight can have one, it's just a matter of how many in a unit.
Haha alright, my bad And yes, you can only have 4 psycannons in a purg squad. No psycannon-y goodness for the justicar, sadly.
It'll be good too if you can switch the LRC to a regular landraider for tank-killing power, and plan on deep-striking something
