the title pretty much explains it all. I read the codex, and all I found was a 6 man support squad w/ 3 snipers. is there any way to just get an individual sniper? (not to be any good, just to look kewl). Can a cadian army use a catachan sniper?
It also says on the games-workshop homepage that the cadian snipers can be taken as an elite choice.
any help would be appreciated.
Can a cadian army use a catachan sniper?
Not as far as I can tell. You can use the model, but to actually run it as a standalone catachan sniper, you would need to use the catachan codex. It does? Could you post where? It also says on the games-workshop homepage that the cadian snipers can be taken as an elite choice.
The only other way to have a lone sniper is to take a doctrine, can't remember which one (might be light infantry), where you can have a single sniper in your normal infantry squads, although I guess that's not really what you are after.
"Pickles, the drummer, doodily doo. (Ding-dong, doodily, doodily, doo.)"
Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
Well the catachan sniper is the only lone sniper out there. Oh, and the vindicare assassin, but trust me, he's garbage. You'd have to get an inquisitor ally, and all this allies crap, and at the end of it all the vindicare is way too expensive for what he does - especially considering the Guard are already experts of long-range firepower, so he doesn't have anything to offer.
My hatred of the Vindicare aside, I also wouldn't suggest collecting a purely-catachan army, because from a practical point of view they're only any good in a jungle, but no opponent is going to want to regularly let you set up a jungle-table so you can kick his butt. The catachans just seem too inflexible for me. What if the next battle isn't in a jungle?
Although if you're set on a lone sniper, maybe you could convice your mates to let you take some catachan allies? Might make for some cool fluff.
Otherwise, the only pure-IG snipers we have are in Special Weapon Support Squads (that's a mouthful to type), but they're too expensive for what they're worth methinks, or we can upgrade a Single guardsman with a Sniper instead of a heavy weapon, if you take Light Infantry, but once again, that's too extraneous and expensive.
And finally... Ratlings! Unfortunately, they are the most points-effective snipers we have. Maybe you could take a minimal-sized squad, possibly using models other than the horrid hobbits that GW is producing? Wow, I absolutely hate the Ratling models. I think a sniper guardsman with a camo cloak is a good enough replacement.
Well there are your options :ninja:
Tyranids: 2500 pts
Imperial Guard: 1000 pts
Witch Hunters: 1000 pts
If all you're looking for is kewl models, you could do a three/six/whatever-man "counts as" squad, I suppose. Make one sniper, and make the others into "loaders" or "lookouts" to protect your operative. Maybe have them holding "backup rifles."
Could be an interesting conversion/modeling project. Check out the Space Marines plastic sniper scout box pieces for ideas.
Also, I already have the catachan codex, and was wondering if I need to include more models than just a deathworld sniper.
If you take Scheiffers last chancers you can split a bunch of sub groups into a single specialist /w sniper rifle (so you'd have a few lone snipers on the table) and then keep Kage/Schaeiffer and the remaining last chancers as a single unit themselves.
Yes you CAN have a lone Snpier as an Elite choice. you just need City Fight.
Warhammer 40,000 - Cityfight
If you do things right people wont be sure if you have done anything at all.
I think Cityfight was supplanted when Cities of Death came out last year.
Cityfight was the 3rd Ed. version of Cities of Death.
I don't exactly remember, but I don't think CoD lets you split up squads like cityfight used to. you're a bit out of luck if you want a sole sniper in 40K. Other than the Vindicare. I don't think he's horrible. He needs to be used properly. He's probably closer to what people think of when they think of a crack lone sniper. He can pick out a single man in a squad to kill, he can pick off a Independant character. He has nightfight-like rules for people to spot him. Don't expect him to always KILL his points back. He's more of a strategic fig.
I use him to pick off officers or Powerfists or heavy weapons. The tricky thing is giving him a target rich field of vision.
actually, I prefer some of the other assasins to him. true, you still have to take an Inquisitor to get an assassin, but a Shooty Inquisitor retinue is nothing to shrug at.
yup, thats city fight. Not the new CoD. sorry but thats not exactly legal anymore.Yes you CAN have a lone Snpier as an Elite choice. you just need City Fight.

As said before, theres no way to get a lone sniper short of an assassin. The special weapons squad would look awsome if converted like Canew said
