Has GW or forgeworld ever made salamander insignia shoulder pads? I have seen the terminator shoulder pads that forgeworld makes, but what about regular tac marine shoulder pads?
To the best of my knowledge, no they have not. Alot of people use an old metal shoulder bit (I believe it was an Alhpa legion piece), which looks fairly close to the logo, just angrier. If you do a search for greenstuff salamander shoulder pads, there is an old tutorial by a fellow named Pyriel who has some amazing talent and good instructions. For more info I would post at the Fires of Nocturne boards.
Games Workshop is the Wal-Mart of hobby products, except for the low prices. The lack of respect and profit mongering is there in spades.
The Alpha Legion pads do work pretty well. When painted up in Sallie colors you can hardly tell.
Personally, I use the decals and they work great. The trick to getting them to lay down on the curved shoulderpad is to make a cut down from the ridge behind the eye. This allows the decal to fold over itself without any obvious distortion. I then paint over the decal, using it as a guide. You don't have to do this though.
Here are some examples of what it can look like:
Here is my Salamanders Terminator Squad.
I entered it in the Citadel Celebration Competition and won best squad.
The complete squad.
Sergeant with banner and two Terminators.
Terminators with heavy flamers.

Just a few touches remain to be done, but my Salamanders Dreadnought is ready for action.

As far as the Fire of Nocturne is concerned - it is pretty much a dead site now. Even the Administrators have abandoned it. A shame really.
