well i played 2 games this weekend and i used 3 missle launcers on in each of my command squads. I firs doubted that they would be helpfull.
My first game was against Necrons which kind of scarred me cause i had played them before with my templars and they proved to be tought to beat. It was going well intilll the monolith showed up and killed 20 guardsmen as it deep striked in to my infantry formation. On my next turn it forunately died to a MISSLE LAUNCHER. The look on his face was so funny he thought he was safe after my lasscannon missed.
In my second game i played against DeathGuard i lost this game but the missle launchers managed to kill his deamon prince which was a big surprise.
So i will no longet doubt my choice in missle launcher. My word to you all is if you have 15 points and the space dont hesitate taking missles.
oh i do realise that this was just luck but if i can get that lucky anyone can.
autocannons, heavy bolters or lascannons, "well-roundedness" wont consistantly win you games, and 5pts more for +1str is worth it

i know that those weapons are better choices and do work better. Its just that i had 3 missle dudes sitting around and decided that i would use them and it worked some what well.
Well, its actually 10 points more, but hey.autocannons, heavy bolters or lascannons, "well-roundedness" wont consistantly win you games, and 5pts more for +1str is worth it
The way I look at it, a lascannon equals a missile launcher AND a plasmagun. So I take lots of missile launchers/autocannons and plasmaguns. With the occassional lascannon (I prefer to take out armour and big beasties with my plasmaguns and deepstriking meltaguns).
I would only put a lascannon in a veteran squad, for unless you have a decent BS I feel those points are being wasted.
But then again, my army style is quite different to the normal guard player's, so hey, take what you want from this and then throw the rest back at me. Fast. I need to practice my dodging skills (my gf is in a good mood, which means strange martial arts bruises for me!)

Also, you should google "garfield minus garfield". Awesome.
If you are playing against someone with minimal tanks that you already have some DSing meltas or lascannons to deal with and they also have no 2+ AS then yes, missile launchers are advisable.
I love my missile launchers. I take 2 squads of anti-tank missile launcher squads attached to my HQ almost every game. They consistently make up their points and they draw far less fire than Lascanon teams.
What do you call a lasgun with a laser sight?
Personally I prefer missile launchers because they are good for both infrantry and tanks, plus they can be heavy team can be based seperate instead of on a massive base making them easier to put in my case.
I now a guy who has lascannons and plasmaguns in each of his squads as well as 3 baslisks with indirect fire and improved comns and trust me it takes its toll points wise he has the least amount of troops i've ever seen in a guard army only 50!
I tend to use two rocket launcher squads attached to my hq, its always fun when the other player sees you put a bunch of heavy weapons down last. Give them sharpshooters and your away. lascannons I reserve for my vets and my sentinels. My opponents loath my sentinels, extra move with the punch of a lascannon. try it sometime.
I get mixed results with the launchers, but I reckon its better to roll 3 dice rather than just one.
i played a guard vs guard cities of death battle the other day- my opponent had a few missile launchers and i think it was with one of those that he destroyed my Leman Russ.
I prefer Lascannons for anti-tank but all of the IG options have things in their favour

Not in an anti-tank support team, the Lascannon is king there.Well, its actually 10 points more, but hey.
