I know this is pure speculation but by the way things have been changing with the recent SM releases I believe that we may not have the problem of choosing between LR’s and Dreadnought as Dreads seem to appearing in elite slots now rather than heavy support slots. Do you think we’ll see this when the new Inquisition Codex/DH Codex is released?
Firstly, several of the ideas I’m gonna touch upon could go into other thread arguments at the moment. But before anyone criticises me for not replying in one of the ongoing topics, the reason I’ve posted this is because it crosses several of them and also opens up a different debate into future developments at the same time.
Obviously, the first is the LR VS Dread debate as I've already talked about. I already switch between dual LR’s and multiple Dreads as it is. But now the idea of having both is salivating. No more problems with the lack of Heavy Weapons, huh?
And what about the competition between other elite units, particularly GKT’s and Inquisitors be like as a result?
EDIT: Do you think, in high point games you'll see alot more people taking BC Stern just to take extra Terminators, when they've max their elite slots out?
Also as recently discussed on a WH/DH combo thread, what do you think to the idea of having a combo of Dreads and exorcists amongst others being a real possibility? Personally I already love the idea of a combo of Seraphim with Flying Canoness, GKT’s (as a bodyguard to HQ GM/BC) a dread and exorcists!

Well, for me the limiting factor between LRs and Dreads, Elite Inquisitors and GKTs, is and has always been a function of points, rather than FOC slots. I simply can't afford to fill any individual type of FOC slot and maintain anything like a balanced list. So, honestly, not much would change for me if they did.
Regarding Exorcists in a DH army, if they allow the choice, I think it'll be similar to the current limitations (i.e. must have SoB Heroine and two SoB Troops choices before selecting). Though I must admit it would be tasty having freer access to them .
Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.
If you're intruiged by doctors who are also ninjas, then this is the webcomic for you!
Obviously at lower point games the choices are going to remain relatively similar to how they are now and you're always going to have to fill in the required FOC first and foremost. And you're always going to style your lineup with the essentail units first to what seems most beneficial when playing against your opponant. But take that all for granted, that's been planned in advance. When you get into higher points, the choices are going to be effected by the change.
I mean say you thought you wanted a lineup that required an multple dreads and multiple elite inquisitors too? Quite regular choices by some at the moment, which may not become possibile.
So yes, by all means in regard to DH/WH lines, imagine you've got that Cannoness 2xSoB (or =]I[= and IST's, whatever your fancy) already filled in your 2,500pt lineup. What next?..
I think the reason why we have Dreads in the Heavy slots is to do with Fluff... we are not like normal space marines, we are a hidden chapter that not many people have even heard of. We don't have the same access to mars and their contraptions...
Maybe we could have an Inquisitorial Dreadnought equivalent maybe some sort of reinforced sentinels or maybe something new and not used by anyone other than the Inquisition.
As for excorists... well I prefer to keep the chapters separate. I feel that by having to combine the two armies you are saying that they aren't good enough on their own
Plus all you need in the middle of a war is some sister sitting in a tank getting tainted by the lures of a daemon...
Just because we are joined by the Emperor and the Inquisition doesn't mean we have the same missions..
Xeno = Aliens
Heretic = Psykers
Malleus = Daemons
Much must be risked in war.
Blood Angel Stormraven Conversion Work In Progress.
I think it would help out with AT somewhat, as Dreads and LR's would both be fielded.
Where the problem lies is that Elite Inq's, Assassins, and GKT's would be on the shelf.
Not many pick them now, well around my area anyway, so seen as the Dreads are virtually a mandatory choice, then they'll be almost extinct (imo).
What would be nice is if they were an 'and/or choice, ala SM's 'Heed The Wisdom of the Ancients' Trait...a lot more flexible.
Never ceases to amaze me that we can ally/induct Leman Russes, dev/Squads, Predators, etc., but not Exorcists. Must be Fluff reasons, but for me anyway, the most fluff I have is on my A#$e, which is what I think of that reasoning sometimes.:x
I could see the change being made, but like Hasten said, they're HS for legitimate fluff reasons, so don't get your hopes up. Were it to happen, it'd be a godsend to pure GK players. As a much more liberal-minded DH with WH allies player, I wouldn't like it, as it would put too much competition on the Elite slots.
FWIW: Elite dreads have been standard for most marine armies for quite some time; nothing new there.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
