You increase the pts of a 10-man squad by 10pts. This gives you a 7/12 chance to hit with a weapon instead of 6/12 for 7pts a model instead of 6 which is a proportionate increase. However you don't gain the extra durability which comes from spending the pts on another model.
Mathematically it's only worth giving Sharpshooter to every squad that you intend to use for shooting only if you're fielding HWeaps and SWeaps I think.
Well I never actually did the calculations but I always gave all my troops the sharpshooters doctrine not just for games sake but also for fluff

Usually my anti-tank squad has around 2-4 1's rolled per battle, so yes it is worth it, considering it could be the differance between killing that carnifex or being stomped by it.

if your really going to put all of your faith into statistics then you should calculate how often you are going to get the average (or most likely) results. There could still be a large standard deviation (and there is with dice), wich meens you are almost as likely to roll worse or better. I think the only thing that can tell you if sharp shooters is worth it is to get experiance. If other imp guard commanders find it usefull, or have used it they should speek up now, since your opinions are more usefull than a bunch of numbers on paper.
I often use it, when playing against Space Marines it always helps to have that extra shot that could have been a 1 but was re-rolled to be a 6, it just gives you more of a chance of taking down more heavily armoured troops if you can hit them with more shots!

i've tried using sharpshooters on my lascannon squad and it's rarely of any use - the only way to make one shot heavy weapons reliable is to take an AT squad (highly recommended) at which time it's very worthwhile to take sharpshooters to enhance the effectiveness of the squad (not i say enhance the effectiveness instead of make more reliable which is huge - reliable lascannons are deadly, unreliable ones make for occasions when half your army fires and hits nothing)
take sharphooters in heavy weapon squads, otherwise i really don't find it that useful for the 10pts it costs. you're right that you could get a rerolled tohit roll but for the amount of points you pump into giving your normal squads sharpshooter, i'll just take another whole squad with a heavy bolter and be guaranteed to get 3 more shots
yes sharpshooters are always worth it, unless you're playing a BS 4 stormie army in which case they're a wasted slot

I never ever roll ones. I always get twos which is really odd.

i always rolled 1's with plasma weaopns until i took a medic - that stopped that. there's gotta be a way to break your 2 rolling hex, maybe take conscripts so you'll definately roll alot of 1's
oh wow, allways roll 2's? I roll an unusuall amount of 1's when I roll. Once i even rolled a six sided dice 200 times, and I found that I roll a 1 21% of the time. It should only be 17%. I haven't checked the other statistics behind it, but 1 is definately my 'lucky' number.
