I was just wondering what everyone thought of a land raider in a blood angels army. I have an oprotunity to purchase one pretty cheaply from a friend who no longer runs marines.
It does seem like an aweful lot of points in an army where things are already very expensive, but I do love big tanks.
I'm running Baals and Furiosos so i'm not all that heavy on regular troops.
I guess I have a Land Raider Crusader though I am pretty sure I haven’t used it in 2 years. The huge amount of points the land raider costs kept me from running it. I used to put an assault squad w/o jump packs or an honor guard. The assault squad cost 150 pts; the honor guard cost 180 pts. I then usually added a SHP and some random war gear. It worked out alright but just invited too much fire.
With the new “codex” the situation gets even more complicated when you think what to put in it. I would not put an assault squad since you don’t get the 7 points back when you drop the jump packs. I also would not put in an honor guard since you can only have 5 models plus your character. The viable options for me now are a scout squad and a terminator squad with assault weapons.
The scout squad already can infiltrate so there is little problem getting them into combat. The terminator squad will cost 200 points. Once you add the Land Raider that will be 450 points total. In a game less than 2000 points I would think this is too many points for one unit. Also in games over 2000 points you get massive amounts of tank killing weapons like lasscannons, bright and dark lances.
My opinion it will
If you build a man a fire he will be warm for a night. If you set a man on fire he will be warm the rest of his life.
Seems like a waste of points in an army that already has the ability to move around the board quickly and also has the option of purchasing the fire-power.
Mind you this way of thinking is because I only use one in my grey knight army where its hard to get high powered weapons and that is the only transport option.
Much must be risked in war.
Blood Angel Stormraven Conversion Work In Progress.
well, I would consider it. I like running Crusaders in games of 1250 sometimes... with termies inside! (gasp)
But in the BA army, the Crusader is cheap. Not being equipped with XA. Those 15 pts really make a difference.
Anyhow. Whatever janks yer chain I guess.
I'd buy it anyway. If I had an option to get any model for a significant percentage cheaper than GW prices, I'd go for it, even if it was, like, a Whirlwind. I hate Whirlwinds.
As for fielding it, the traditional Terminator squads aren't so bad with the new pricing system the DC has, and as I understand it Honour Guard come without jump packs to start with, so you save points by placing them in a Land Raider. Plus, the rules stipulate one can insert a Tech-Adept into the Honour Guard, who has Blessing of the Omnissiah and can repair your Land Raider on a lucky roll.
Admittedly, they can only be five men strong, which is a trend in the new codex - you find something cool you might be able to do something with, and there's some niggly in the rules that just screws it all up for you.
