It isnt slow for me, but its slower than before cause it is "initializing" the chat every page I go to.

maybe there should be a way to disable it for people that dont want it? THe chat seems very similer to that of Facebooks chat and you can disable that one.

We're discussing the irc chat, I believe, not the bottom-of-the-page jobby.

Gixaw was the one in the LO colours, yes? That's the version I prefer.

yeah, we're discussing the other chat not the toolbar style one at the bottom of the page

and yeah, gixaw was the one with LO colours etc

The irc chat is basically the only reason I still visit LO.

Seeing as the chat is located on the Quakenet IRC server and all traffic in chat doesn't pass through the Librarium Online server at all, operating costs amount to a grand total of zero-zip-nada.

Like every other part of the site, chat is entierly optional. If I used your logic, and opted to have every part of the forum I don't use to be removed, we'd end up with pretty much nothing but the LO-Chat-Staff forum, the Chaos Space Marine forum(Of course, you wouldn't be able to post, just lurk), my own controlpanel... and the the irc chat itself. ^^

Secondly, the amount of pressure the link to the irc chat adds onto the server is miniscule.

Also, please come back to us Kar-moon-kenobi, you're our only hope. There be Riptors and space elves about... and even an Alzer or two. :'(

EDIT2: Also, I much prefer the IRC version of chat, since with IRC, I get to chose what client I wish to connect with, and unlike the gixaw, is an IRC client not limited to just one chat. For those of us who frequent multiple IRC channels, having another separate window just for ONE chatchannel is just cumbersome.

That version of chat was greatness, after that was when we really had problems with the different chats that either looked terrible, had problems connecting members with certain clients, and other such shenanigans.

I personally use Chatzilla to get in now, but since chat's been down from here the room has been virtually dead and it's annoying, so much so I stopped playing the hobby even.

Of course I voted continue, one of the only things I do on LO now. My sage like advice and good looks help chat out, and it's awesome for some quick advise or army discussion with a bit of humor thrown in. Plus it keeps me from being super bored, a bonus.

I didn't vote, as I don't use chat enough to feel that I should have a vote, but if it's not costing anything, then I see no reason not to continue offering it to my more chat inclined brothers.

I pretty much agree with this. The older version was pretty good and I'd use it frequently. The newer one I'm not so excited by and reasonably rarely use it.


I don't think total discontinuation would be good, chat has always had a reasonable group of followers from what I can make out.

Wait, is this thread about discontinuing chat, or just irc chat? I clicked continue thinking that chat itself may be cut, but I wish to discontinue IRC. The old one was just so friendly.

I thought they were talking about the other chat tool bar at the bottom of the page. And if they were That thing is barely worth its weight. im not talking about removing things that many many people use like other forums, im talking about taking off the bells and whistles.
