I'm not quite sure where you're going with this, but I have two points of caution

1. Any photo containing imagery that might be shocking or distressing should be linked to with adequate warning. Simply enough, people should not be subjected to distressing images unless they want to be.

2. Please remember that forum rules still apply here - the pornographic and the macabre will not be tolerated. Please also abide by our rules regarding political and religious discussion

Since I'm a fan of both history and photography, I'm curious to see where this thread leads, but please remember to play nice.

This was not intended to be either of those - it's a terrible picture and is nothing else. It's also famous and I'm sure has been seen by people of all ages - I remember seeing it in a school textbook at 12. Here's another...

Hitler in some of his early propaganda which would lead to the Nazis taking over.

Historical pics are cool, but I'm not sure what you mean by provocative. Posting a picture of the Americans bombing Vietnam or whatever isn't as clever or radical as you think it is, in fact it illustrates a certain immaturity.

Basically I will echo Cyric's concerns and re-iterate the point of sticking by forum rules, failure to do so will be viewed upon unfavorably by myself.

Well provoking thought is ok, but unfortunately many of the pics here will provoke debate which will inevitably career toward all the (currently) banned topics on LO

I'll post a pic, it's of the mathematician Euclid. Whose ideas founded a lot of what we know about number theory and many other areas of mathematics. He also proved, in four lines, that there exists an infinite number of prime numbers. Whilst it's not strictly a photograph, it's still an important image of a great man
