Having played 40k for something like 15 years, I have gone through several phases of game related burn out ( basically I play way to much and start doing something else until I feel the need to play some more ) The past summer I was really active with my LATD army but the changes to the chaos codex brought me down a little because my army list was getting invalidated. Not to mention I have a lot of family related issues going on this year. Now I know in a couple of months the bug is going to bite me again and I will be fighting hard with a new army and loving every minute of it. So here is my question How often do you get burnt out on the hobby , what is the avarage down time and what do you do in the meantime to stay out of trouble ???
I get burned out mabey every 9 months and It take about 2-3 months for me to get back in. I get together with my group for board games or alternate miniture games. I love the boared games like Twilight imperium, peurto rico , Munchkin. We just got the order of the stick game and it really is a lot of fun.
Thought for the day: A Burning Heretic , Will brighten the Decor of any room.
Everytime I look at WD's showcase, then look at the quality of my own painting/converting skills...

Hmm... i get burned out once every five or six months i get burnt. Unfortunately, I stay burned for quite awhile. I play with a group of friends, so once one of us goes down, it takes alot to get back in. We do eventually get back on track, and in the down time we find other stuff. Cars, girls, paintball, school, and just different games, tend to draw us away each in turn.
Usually though, even if the group is going through a rut, most of us are still painting and converting (often picking up the slack for whoever's not in)
I just came back a few weeks ago from an over 2 years "burnout", I don't remember how longi had been playing but ya......the destruction of my necron army(which is a good thing cuz necrons r dumb) but ya...2 years....I didn't even think it was a burn out or a break, I thought I was done. But I'm back *applause*
Currently working on I.Repent, Part one of the Lost Astartes Story
If anyone is interested let me know and i will share some unfinished product :)
Also have a codex, and miniatures in the works
Aye, it sometimes happens to me too, but it only tends to be a 2 to 3 months at a time, and tends to happen every 2 or 3 years.
Mainly I just forget about it for a bit and find that I tend to write stories more. (Which more often that not, are 40k based anyway. Which I find keeps me away from the model making side of things long enough to get my interest back... but yet ensures that I never quite give up the hobby altogether.)

about february-april i get burnt out. then i get in the mode again for Games day. i steal stuff from the conversion contest, and look, i have a core army! can't wait for IG.
what's sucky is those are some good months for painting, and i get burnt out from staying inside during those harsh winter months previous to those.
