So the other day I opened up one of my Land Raider Crusader boxes to find that I had two sprues for the left side of the tank, and no sprues for the right side of the tank...it was a real bummer, considering I couldn't locate the receipt from the store. So I called GW and talked to them, and very nicely they said they were sending a replacement sprue right out to fix the problem, free of charge.
On my doorstep this morning was a free, complete, in the sealed box Land Raider tank. I know GW takes a lot of heat on the forums for different reasons, but that's just above and beyond right there, in my opinion. Shoot, I'd rep 'em if I could, but I suppose they'll just have to settle for me continuing to buy their stuff for years to come.
(Now I just have to find another side for the new tank...I mean, we can't have 3/4's of a Land Raider just going to waste!)
The same happened to me with a Chaos Predator - I was just given a brand new one and then got to keep the parts for conversions. After that I just purchased half a Rhino hull through Mail Order and rebuilt the second one, so it worked out as a happy ending for me. I think it's the developers more than the sales people that get the most flak on the intenet, for whatever rules they did or didn't make. Anyway, I love happy endings.
Good to hear that GW is doing right, and good to hear people talking about it. It's a refreshing change from the complaining you hear so much.
At the hobby store I work part-time in, their order service usually does quite alright. There have been a few hiccups, but on average less than from other companies that I won't name here.

GW have always been good when it comes to defective sets and returns. They don't argue, they just send it out free.
And since they usually let you keep the defective stuff, you've got some stuff free, too (One time there was a single pair of legs missing from a box of Chaos Warriors...).

I have to agree GW is very good at customer care.
I bought an Imperial Guard heavy weapon team box. A sprue with the guns was missing.
I went to the local GW store and they gave me a new one. And they didn't wanted the other box back either.
I know many people who had issues with their kits and GW sort them out fast. What's the results? Happy customers who tomorrow will go and buy the new products. That's the best PR.
I ordered a direct only skaven lord from when they did the lustria campaign a while ago and got the wrong one, so they ordered the right one for me and let me keep both.
When I ordered the old chaos battleforce box it was missing almost all the chaos backpacks. All I had to do was call. They were very nice and sent it too me in the mail, but this thread begs the question, couldn't someone get free stuff from GW in this way. (Not saying anyone would, but it seems possible considering how lax they are.)
And no I don't steal their stuff.
I heard that once a kid droped this dudes baneblade on the floor and it shattered and the GW guys built and painted a new one for him;Y
That is not dead which may eternal lie,
for in strange aeons even death may die.
Did you have to show them the faulty sprue in order to get the replacement?
Because I smell potential for dishonesty here.
