I was thinking about this the other day and realised that it has happened to me quite a bit. Mainly people that I am playing against saying that they hate the race that I am playing. Now, I play Tyranids, Eldar and a bit of Daemonhunters along with a completely useless small clan of Night Goblins.
I was playing at the Australian QLD GT recently, and the third game I played was against an Ork player (nothing against ork players).
I try and be as friendly as possible, and always shake hands and find something nice about the other persons army to comment on, be it painting, etc. he looked at my army and just said "I hate damn Eldar".
I laughed this off at the time, but after around the 5th time that he said it, it was getting a bit annoying. I tried my hardest to say nothing and just kept my mouth shut.
I understand some people not liking some other armies/races, but to keep berating the other player constantly about it???
Anyway, I was just wondering whether other people on LO have had similar experiences and how have you dealt with it?? Am I the only one that has a problem with this and should I just ignore it???
But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
It's mostly Australian gamers have a stronger opinion on 'cheese' than the rest of the world is all. If something looks like you haven't spammed tactical marines then its unfluffy and shouldn't exist.
Best bet is to avoid the Aussie tourneys in my opinion. Find some friends/gaming group and play in a relaxed environment. I play eldar so I've had all the regular complaints like you have.
Even with my tyranids though, "Hey, you get a 12" charge move, how am I meant to shoot you when you have a turn 2 charge, thats stupid cheese!" >_<
So yes, everyone's had that problem, Key is to just avoid those kinds of people. Aussies tend to be the worst of all when it comes at it.
PS: Yes everyone, I'm Australian, I know what I'm talking about/not being racist.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
Hate is a strong word.
I dont think anyone would 'hate' an army that they feel confident about beating. So, I think that most people hate other armies because they fear them.
As a wise...man???... once said: Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
It's worth a krak!
i know what you're getting at ;Y
when someone says that, it's really a good thing! it means that they feel annoyed and uncomfortable to be playing against such an army, then probably finds it hard to defeat them.
i say, let them complain! it's the first step to victory, and that it forces your irrate opponent in making the wrong moves. thus, granting you more of a chance to win games.
"Obi-Wan has taught you well..." lol, sorry Plasma Catcher, i couldn't resist
by the way, did you win against him/her?
some people just can't get their heads out of their backsides, it's a game for god's sake!.
people who say things like that take themselves and the hobby way to serious, if an opponent has a powergaming list than you it's just the more fun when you beat them
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

The Dutch Legion
The thing is, I don't have a powergaming list. And I hadn't deployed anything yet. I actually lost the game due to some poor unit placement so he had nothing to worry about.
And to put the icing on the cake, I won 40K Favourite Army, so it can't have been that bad. Don't think I would have won that with 3 Falcons Got a nice trophy out of it too. And a Demolisher! Good, my eldar need a heavy siege tanks.
Oh, well, I think you're right Lordlink in just avoiding the tourney's all together, but they are fun to see armies that people have put a lot of effort into.
But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
I love all the races for both games, i would like to collect them all if i had the time and money!
Maybe its because I dont play very much though, so playing against a new army is a novel experience for me- at the UK meet this year I had a chat to another member who was absolutely sick of playing against Dwarfs.
But to actually develop a strong enough feeling to hate a particular fictional race? thats just wierd

I am tired of people who lose to a race/army two times and then declare the whole army as being unfair. I don't know how many times I have heard "Eldar are gay." I am also sick of people who are new to the game and lose to a veteran and then decide that the army they played against was unfair. It isn't unfair, you just aren't good enough at the game yet, don't expect to be awesome on your first game.

The statement is more likely a reflection of some bad opponents he has faced (or some losses he has handled poorly), and really has no bearing at all on you or your list. Shrug it off like the meaningless comment it is, and by all means game on.
