I'm seriously considering getting the game Talisman. After seeing something about it in a White Dwarf a few issues ago I did some research on it and it looks like a pretty good game.
If you have played the game could you please post the pros and cons about it. Any help would be much appreciated.
PS. If you know any other games like Talisman that you have played and like please post about them too.
Nothing is impossible, only improbable.
War is young men dying and old men talking.
always preferred the old warhammer quest game to talisman, tried to find a set but none to be had for neither love nor money, only a few battered old sets on flea bay. Have to harrass my m8 and see if he's still got his old set, I feel like dusting of my Noble.
aut viam inveniam aut faciam / I'll either find a way or make one.
The game is very fun to play. I have been considering getting the new version myself.
The basic premise of the game is that you travel around the board going from the outer ring to the inner ring until 1 person gets the crown of command. Along the way you will get treasure (equipment, money, and magic) that will make you stronger. You will fight monsters and even on occasion the other players...
The original game came with several expansions that basically tied into spaces on the main game board and allowed you to go to other areas (for instance a "city" expansion) that gave you more options for getting more powerful!
I don't think the new version has any of these expansions incorporated into it... The more expansions you had the longer the games tended to be. If anything that is the only negative to the game is the time to play...
The new version looks great though and I would love to hear what others that have played the new version think!

Talisman is what I consider to be a "beer and pretzels" game - that is, it's not anything to take too seriously, and it's full of unclear rules and loopholes. It requires infinite luck and zero skill, but it's great fun for sitting around a table with a group of friends to play.
I had a chance to check out the new edition in September. The new edition has a couple of rules changes and tweaks, but it's basically the same game from 20 years ago with new art. Highly recommended for an evening of fun. My only complaint is that it can be very easy for one lucky character to dominate the whole game, which is great fun for that one player, but can be irritating for everyone else.
Don't let any of that dissuade you though. The game is a lot of fun.
OMG it is so fun. 3 thumbs up! ! !
My friend has it. It is tons of fun but not a very serious game and completely lacks any depth or resemblance of tactics. You should RP the events that unfolds and always take everything with a huge butt-load of sarcasm (and beer). Also, never aim at anythign in this game. Just walk around and let the events unfold around you.
Take it seriously and it will be boring, let the game play you and be silly and you will have a god time.
To be honest it got old quick. Take it as silly is the way to go but even then, the end game just isn't that great. Buy Settlers or risk 2210 instead.
I have played the new version of it, and it's rather fun. A good board game for hanging out with your friends for the evening. Simple rules, 99% luck and some fun surprises while you play.
Age is a state of mind, and since I have no mind, I don't age.
