So, there you go. Mechanised, and with as many LRC's as I could feasibly get without resorting to Terminators. A very small list and overly reliant on the Land Raiders, but definitely an "out of the norm" list and one most opponents won't expect. Very deadly if played right! I took the "as many LR's as you can" to heart, and this is what came out. Hope you like it!

Since you are just starting again since 3rd edition and you mentioned it was a friendly, local tournament I am hoping they give you some leeway with what weapons are actually on the models. I have not deviated too far, your wraithlords are both carrying lances but just inform your opponent that they also have missiles. Your avengers and vyper are probably set up in an old style as well.

As for tactics, your army obviously focuses around its core of 3 monstrous creatures. I know people say use wraithlords as a kind of bunker but in this instance you really do want them walking towards close combat, even if they aren't actually going to charge, they want to be with the rest of the army. Your monsters should all be hanging around with the guardians, the warlock negates wraithsight (I don't believe you need a spiritseer) and the avatar gives fearlessness.
Wherever possible sit your wraithlords side-by-side and put the avatar just behind them. This is an effective means of Blocking LoS from threatening squads to the avatar.

Do whatever you feel is best for your dire avengers each game, they don't have a set tactic, they are designed to give you an effective squad to bolster your army or create a 2nd short-range firebase.
The warp spiders dance around either the monsters or the avengers, shooting at whatever they can without getting killed. If you meet a squadron of vehicles such as vypers or land speeders then warp spiders love to shoot them.
The vyper is there for grabbing objectives and giving you some early firepower. In short its there to back up the dire avengers.
