Well I picked up my first model when I was 7. Been at it since. Didn't have my first game till I was 11, but that's not the point

My interest in the hobby has faded, but never fully left me. And besides, a lot of my friends go to a club (a rented room in a local leisure centre) where we play from about 12-5 every saturday. We age from about 13-20 (I'm 15 at the moment) and theres about 20 people total (not all at once though) and to be honest (looking at Sarathi here) we do still have a large social life. I'm not going into it, but if I was to use a term, it would be "cool geek" for the most of us (oxymorons anyone?). Warhammer has never interfered in my social life, yeah, sometimes it leads to awkward moments, but someone who judges you for something like that is generally not worth listening to. I mean, who cares if a person spends 5 hours a week playing board games? I mean really? Hell, I used to down about 4 litres of mountain dew a week and spend about 10 hours raiding on WoW (thats way behind though) and to be honest, WoW effected life more than Warhammer ever did.

We get folk in at the club just for the banter and cause their friends are there. To be honest, whats wrong with that? Obviously you dont go blaring it from the rooftops, as some people just dont have brains, and will give you some hefty abuse for it. But ignore it, if your friends don't care, why should you?

What I'm trying to say is theres nothing wrong with wargaming. Is it any worse than playing video games? Those are just as real as 40k. Aye ok, I'm one of the biggest geeks in the club, but it doesn't bother me.

As to losing interest in Warhammer, I don't think I have ever quit, I may have stopped being so active, but I've always been an avid wargamer =)

Ah, the tears of a lovelorn mortal simply weeping for the kind attentions of the fairer sex....

That doesn't mean that I advocate judging a book by it's cover, but I'm just trying to say that while they may not be cheerleaders or the most popular girls in their grade, you can still do quite well.
HAHA! I was a late bloomer, girls were just all out of my league until I reached 19 years of age, but to state the facts, I play LOTS of games, I tend to have bad BO, and I have smelly feet and on top of that all, I am overweight, and I can say without any arrogance that even I have picked up some lookers, and that confidence and being a little up yourself will do better for you than anything.

I used to be terrified of girls and even girls I knew I wouldn't talk to out of pure terror but when I switched over to being louder and letting girls know what I think, they appear to pay more attention.

One girl even referred to the whole warhammer thing as "cute" just before I started seriously collecting and she thought it was adorable that I played games most of my free time.

I guess my point is, fat, thin, smelly, it doesn't matter as long as you don't pretend you are something you are not, I pride myself on honesty and if a girl wants me to stop warhamming and being a total nerd for her she can leave because I put up with all her beauty treatments and make up and hair straightening and whinging about this and that.

So I think its only fair they give us a break.

P.S.

Hmmm, well, I had a huge sig (for whom the bell tolls by tallica) but i had to delete almost all of it to put in that one quote. Hmmm....

And ah, I would edit it, but I think it's more amusing that way

So, not to completely derail this thread.

We have established that if anyone discriminates against you for your hobby they're not worth it?

Sounds fine to me =)

Eh- if anyone CLOSE to you discriminates then true, they are not worth it. However, some people you'd like to get to know, or be aquaintances with, are worth the extra occasional effort. It's too much work (let alone just wrong) to pretend around someone who you spend alot of time with. But a friend at school or work might be worth the hiding around, just to have someone to talk to and/or network with.
Lifelong friends, potential wives/fiances, family-members, should all know you play. Nobody else matters unless you want to tell them.
