I've been looking at all the stuff happening in the world of film recently, and there really is a hell of a lot going on at the moment. One thing that struck me as odd though, was that there have been no serious "high-budget" attempts at a 40k movie. Surely with a background as rich as this, there must be dozens of potential storylines for a 40k film?
penny for your thoughts
"LET NO GOOD DEED GO UNPUNISHED, AND NO EVIL DEED GO UNREWARDED"
GW probably refuses to sell the rights for anything less then ridiculous, anyways. a Warhammer Fantasy movie would probably happen first (Specially with the Fantasy craze) and would all around be much much easier to do.
Actually, it might be the studios who have tried to buy the rights but refuse to agree to GW "if we don't like what we see, we can cancel it" policy on everything.
Its a real shame. The opening animation on the Computer game of 40k is awesome! If they could just do a feature length of that I'd be well pleased.
I think i'll pass. I love 40k too much and don't want to see it get butchered. An animated film might be a decent direction.
The Hive Mind will consume all.
I'm pretty sure GW have forbid all types of film to be made about their stuff, even low budget ones.
I'm not entirely sure it would bring in massive revenue anyway, sure on this site it might be a popular notion, but wargaming isn't so big in the real world
That, or they can't stand the thought of someone else making profits off the work they did (adapting and integrating things into a Sci-Fi universe can be tough).
Subsequently, all you ever see these days is fan-made movies. Some better than others (and I look at the ones me and my friends have made when I mention the not so good ones).
I think a fantasy one would be better than a 40k one, although i doubt it will ever happen
Back in the zone!
A film based on the Horus Heresy might be decent, but please no Tyrannic War film, it'd be another AVP.
I forget what it was called, but I remember threads on LO a while ago discussing the saga of a low-budget film made by fans with GW's permission, only to have GW change its mind at the last minute, AFTER the film was made, so there's this great film out there somewhere that no one is allowed to see or distribute. Way to go, GW.
