My, how... disappointing. All I can picture is the grinning idiotic animal from "Any Which Way You Can" toting a lasgun. Blech.

The idea that they adapt technology in the field is interesting, and sounds vaguely Orky to me, but if that's the case, why would the Necron codex call them "technology mimicking?" Frankly, I imagined a somewhat formless alien being that could shape its "arm" or whatever into something that resembled and acted like a gun. That called to mind something like chaos obliterators, or a biomechanical gunslinger like a carnifex with a venom cannon or... something. Anything but a hairy, long-armed monkey fiddling with a wrench (that's "spanner" for all you non-Yanks out there). Somehow that image would be very, well, uninspiring. I'm almost sorry I brought it up.

@stgermaine: Yeah, I get where you're going, but again, I fear the GW types out there would view this as nothing more than a "counts as" army using rules for an existing race, i.e. IG. That's the problem. You have to ask, "Ok, what died to create the undead beings?" If the answer is, say, humans, then the natural reaction is, "Ok, so why don't you just use an Imperium codex and make 'counts as' models based on the human models?" I'm not pooh-poohing your idea, but I fear that would be the reaction from GW. At best, you can hope for a Chapter Approved (if they ever do that again) to come out on it.

Hey, how bout undead Squats? Now, THERE'S an idea!*

*just kidding.

Only one race in the 40k universe deserves a new codex. Only one power can conquer its foes and set the galaxy ablaze. Tremble as the true rulers in the galaxy emerge....

KROOT!!! They had a semi-codex in an edition of Chapter Approved during 3rd Ed., but when I've seen them played they were quite interesting. If GW was to make a Kroot codex that was largely based solely off of the Kroot themselves, and only had a minor influence from Tau (carbines and pulse rifles being equipment options for certain squads maybe) then they would be a great non-MEQ race combining the swiftness and frailty of Dark Eldar with the barbaric ferocity of Orks.

If they introduce undead rules for 40k I can only hope they are nothing like the Vampire Counts for WHFB.
Plague Zombies that are a unit for the Lost and the Damned would be a lot better. You could still use the fantasy zombies, and they could release a plastic box set of Chaos mutants, Chaos Cultists and a Chaos Coversion kit or 'Desecration ritual in a box'.

I like the Idea of a Alien Creature encounter set. they could release rules as part of the Xenos codes or even as part of a random encounters and optional rules codex. A few blisters or a plastic box set containing several different types of alien would be cool.

Kroot could certainly do with an updated WD codex at least.
