Default Favourite Lost Armies

Howdy all.

I've seen a lot of 'My favourite Army' and 'What Armis I own" threads on many different boards.

I've got a different question. What was your favourite army that you NO LONGER own?
You may have dropped it either due to a change in rules (or editions) or another army caught your fancy or whatever really.

Only rules, ya did own the army at one point, but don't now.

I can give a few examples from my experience.
My fave was my 2nd edition "Wulfen" army. This was way before the 13th company was more that a single paragraph in the SW codex. I figured that they had been lost to Chaos, so I made a Khorne Army using SW models. That was a beautiful army, but 3rd ed killed it so I traded my Swolf models for some Dark Elves and sold the daemons.

My second missed Army was my Genestealer Cult army. Had a bunch of gangers and guardsmen and stealers. I forgot which rules killed this one off, but when I decided to dismantel it, I gave the guardsmen to a friend, lost the limosuine somewhere somewhen and traded the gangers for a Van sar gang. I think I still have the stealers around somewhere.

My third was a bit more recent... My beloved Speed Freeks. This was a fully converted army. But I caught the SM bug in the beginning of 4th, and I sold the army to a friend to buy more <cough, cough> landspeeders <cough, cough>.

Your turn!

I had an awesome Dwarf army in fantasy that I spent ages painting to the highest standard I could achieve as a 15 year old. It had the throne of power, the anvil of doom, the works.

When I moved away for university at 18 I let one of my mates keep it to use in our gaming group back home. Long story short the gaming group fell apart, the guy moved away, and when I finally caught up with him about 7 years later he said "sorry man, I sold them. I'll give you 200 bucks if you like?"

I also had a small squat army when I was like 11 0r 12, but I guess they were eaten by nids because I have no idea where they are now. Squats were a bit silly anyway so no great loss there. I could have got some mad gamer cred today by pulling out my exo-armoured hearthguard models though.

Today I have no interest in Dwarfs or Squats. Funny how life is.

Back in the mid-90s, when Epic was king, I had a large Epic Squat army. They were definately the coolest Epic army (even though they were, are and always will be the worst 40k army) with the Land train, Colossus, Cyclops et al.

I actually should still have them in the attic somewhere, so they arent really lost to me, just lost through the machinations of GW.

The only army I sold was my Catachan Imperial Guard army. I sold them to a guy I proceeded to play for about 5 years so I saw them every week but some days I want to pick up a lasgun and fight as men.
Cadian army has been a pipe dream for a long time and that is where it will stay for now

I guess my WHFB Dwarfs. I found them too easy to win with, and no fun, so I sold them. Interestingly enough, the guy I sold them to now goes to my local club.

Although I did keep a Bolt Thrower and a Flame Cannon, so they exist in the corner of my bits box, except the BT, which is now enjoying life as a mortar, and the FC has future as a Hellstorm Rocket battery when I can be bothered to get that boxed set.

My Nids army from when I was at uni. They were infamous among my player group (they were incapable of winning under my command. Ever. The dice gods shunned that army...)

But I spent so long on their colour scheme, experimenting with inks and basing their colours off of real bugs. Plus they were really fun to play.

Then I left uni, needed to clear up some space and they needed to go (along with my melee heavy Necron army featuring 6 converted wraiths, converted destroyer lord, 20 flayed ones and 8 pariahs...).

Not sure if I got this right, do you mean lost armies as
in ‘oh no I just lost my army on the bus’ or armies that
have been dicontiuned by G.W?

I once had a space marine army but I managered
to burn my bedroom down and the army was destroyed
along with about 3 years worth of white drawf’s.

If you meant the other one, then I would say I miss the LaD
army list from the eye of terror codex. Plus I wish zoats were
brought back, they were cool.
I would also love to see a genestealer cult list.

My armies don't disappear unless GW abandons them. They simply go on the shelf until such time as they decide to reinstate the codex. I've only got two armies in this category but I have a couple of armies "on shelf" as I'd gotten tired of playing the same thing and needed a change. The armies in the first category are the Lost and the Damned army that I'd been building when GW let the LatD codex fade away (they've not actually stated that this list is defunct; it's just no longer allowed at official GW tourneys effectively phasing it out) and my Loyalist Emperors Children (uses Blood Angels codex). I used the BA codex primarily because of the Black Rage showing their almost rabid need to get into combat to redeem their soiled honor with the new codex removing this rule, the LEC have been shelved for the time being.

I sold off my Lizardmen army a few months ago, I was just starting up VC and I needed both space and $$ for the new army.

I miss my Cult of Ulric Empire army for WHFB... OK, so I can still use the rules on the GW site... and I do still have the models for the half-an-army I did manage to collect... Just no-one to play against..
