So after about 3 years, I decided to pursue Warhammer 40k in college (cheaper than airsoft [my other hobby], and more people are into it at the college I'm attending). But unfortunately...it's college. So I'm kind of on a budget here. I've been out of the loop for a long time, and I'm looking to get about 750pts worth of a good, rounded army together. When I say "get together", I mean the codex, the paints, the rulebook (4th edition or 5th?), the models, and maybe some extra cash for conversion bits/sprues. I am mostly looking for an infantry army, maybe a dread or a transport or two thrown in there. I have about $200 to spend as well. Where should I look for the best deals on models, as far as websites go (not looking to shop on ebay, sorry)?

Agree with jake. The War Store/Battlewagon-Bits is an excellent store with excellent prices, service, selection, everything. Not only do they sell full boxes at 20% off (US Price) they sell loads of individual Bitz too for insanely cheap prices.

if you're looking for Marines or Orks (which are both good choices for infantry heavy armies going into 5th ed) I highly suggest waiting for the new 40k box set (battle for Black Reach I think is the name). It comes with a fair number of models for either side (roughly 500 points depending on upgrades) the rulebook and dice. It's by far and away your best bang for your buck. If you don't want either of those armies, start looking at battleforce boxes. They're 90 bucks and generally are the second best deal around. If you buy those from one of the shops with the discounts you should be able to get a roughly 750 point army along with supplies at under 200. Just be careful cause the rulebook and codex if you buy them alone are ~75 bucks before you've even picked up a single model.

I've had simply fantastic service with Neal over at the Warstore; he sells everything quite affordable (at least compared to GW's normal prices), has a large inventory, shipping is both fast and reasonable, and seems like a good all around individual. As for what you get as paul_Harkonen suggested the Battle Black Reach comes with a lot of models, rulebook, etc, and you can always trade the side you don't plan on trading with someone else. Having said that, if you don't particularly like Orks or SMurfs then the Battleforces are a good way to go. In particular the Tyranid, Necron and Tau battleforces. They're all great value for your money, and with the Tyranid and Tau ones you're able to form a legal army (well, with a little bit of conversion for the Tau.) And hell, with the Necron BF the addition of a Lord should coplete it as well. Best of luck with whatever army you decide to go with. And feel free to post anymore questions, we're always glad to help. ![]() -Mike |
