I know that most everyone that sees this will say "oh hes exaggerating" but I DO fail half my saves, if not half, then ONE save less than half, when you have 17 wounds and you fail 8, something is wrong.
Does this happen to anyone else? Am I the only one with this terrible luck?
At first I thought it was just when I play with dice, but after a game with my mate on vassal, I lost almost half a 20 marine squad to failed saves from a single necron warrior squad.
Then when I charged a separate squad, with numbers 15 chaos marines with bolter/ccw AND MOK, against necron warriors of the same size squad, I lost combat by 4 wounds!
With all those attacks I managed one miserable wound, he managed to get 5 wounds on me and I had 4 times the attacks he did?!?!?!
I am so disheartened by this lately that its totally ruining any fun I used to have in just simply playing a game, then moving into this section where I can't win because I'm failing a ridiculous amount of saves each turn!??!
So to recap, I hate having a 3+ save, I'm never safe from any attack no matter how weak it may be, so does anyone else suffer this curse?
Do you pray to the dice gods before, during and after every match?
I also recommend watching the Mahabharata television series, and copying the "Uncle Shakoni" character's dice rolling techniquies - he always rolls what he wants on any die by shouting out "Chhe!" (6!) or similarly.. ("Ekk!") - I tried it one battle and it worked quite a lot, and even worked playing Monopoly. Also works when your opponent is throwing his dice as well!!
statistics and maths are an odd thing.
One thing which so called 'maths hammer' experts fail to recognise is that.. they say there is an average you will roll with say.. 10 dice...
But, the average works on a much much larger scale than that. The average will actually work over say 10000 dice.
I'm not saying don't believe the laws or reality... i'm just saying don't be immature enough to think that they'll average out in a single match.
another question is... did those CSM have an aspiring champ.. and did the aspiring champ have a powerfist or a power spoon?
either way, stick with it... or do what I did, and start Nids. It feels great running around with no armour on occasionally... it's like taking off your clothes and running around parks naked scaring people. You know what I mean. hahahahaha.
Wait, there are armour saves in this game? you my friend have just blown my mind. (I too play nids).
Karmoon hit it right on the head. 10, 100 or sometimes even 1000 rolls aren't enough to ensure that you're statistically going to roll statistically average (wrap your head around that one). A statistical average runs on the premise that if you roll an infinite number of dice over the course of all of those rolls (assuming perfect dice) you will average a certain number. Statistics cannot and does not predict what will happen on any given dice roll. The moral of this story is, don't get discouraged if the dice turn against you, eventually it will even out over the course of your life. Keep in mind that it's also over the course of the game too, so maybe while you're failing armour saves you're shooting better than average, or wounding better or fleeting better... oh right marines. Either way statistical averages are over the course of all of your dice rolls, so if it's just poor armour saves don't worry about it.
And if that isn't an acceptable answer you can always do what some people I know do. Pray to the dice gods and throw away any die that rolls a 1 at any point during a game.
Then again, maybe what you need to do is play a proxy game or a vassal game (not that I would ever encourage doing things that might cost GW money) with nids or orks. After playing a game where I didn't pass a single armour save as nids I never worried about failed saves again. If you play an army or game where saving isn't the norm you stop worrying about how many saves you make.

~2k of genestealery goodness
~1750points of terminator goodness
Dovie'andi se tovya sagain
more witty remarks to come.
I have to second (thrid?) the reccomendation of put your marines to one side (or use them as proxies) and play a saveless or near saveless army for some games. Then saving half your wounds will make you grin with joy when you next play marines, even if its low cause normally you'll be used to taking 10 wounds, shrugging and removing 10 models.
I actually do play orks on the side, and I feel better knowing that my terrible armor saving rolls don't have an impact in the game at all.
I don't shoot any better, in fact I tend to miss quite a lot too, maybe I accidently killed a kitten at some point and god is against me.
and to karantalsis, I can't exactly laugh my marines being slaughtered by bad armor saving rolls because I've played a few games with races that have no armor, unless I tell my opponent I'll only pay 6 points per marine
Talking about the law of statistics
I just decided to roll 7 10D6 in vassal to see what happened, if anyone doesn't believe this I'll gladly take a print screen, if anyone wants to help me in my proven hatred by the universe they can take 7 10D6 rolls and tell me the results?
- Warhammer 40k Module 3-5-5 version 3.5.5

*** 10d6 = 1,2,1,6,6,5,5,4,4,6 *** <omgitsduane>
31 fails out of 70 rolls, just under 50%
Oh and karmoon, somehow I accidentally deleted the champion with the fist during a previous turn instead of a regular marine, but with 4/1 ratio of attacks, how could I have lost by 1/4?

Dude! You must have seriously offended the Dice Gods.
It may be necessary for you to start sacrificing a model to them before each game...

Ok... you're using Vassal?
That may explain a lot.
Vassal is notorious for being crap like that.
i remember one match I had against Caluin... and someone commented that it seemed to be a '1' rolling competition.an Eldar player would be better.Originally Posted by psychowyrm
Well a similar thing happens when I play real games with either other production dice OR games workshop dice.
All I know is that I've really pissed off whoever controls the dice on earth!
