'15 Hours' is a standalone book about the Imperial Gaurd and it is quite good. Some of the battle scenes could be from any WW1 battlefield. 'Execution Hour' was also found to be a good, short read. While it's not explicitly 40K perse, it covers BFG during the Black Crusade and is what brought me to that amazing game. The book itself however was excellent, I love how the writer handled the material. Also, the Necrons appear in the Ultramarines series that someone already mentioned. Finally, for 40K, I can steer you directly away from anything written by C.S. Gotto. He is quite a terrible writer- little more than a fanboy. And, if there are 2 books from Black Library which I can request even though they are not 40K related, might I suggest 'Gilead's Blood' and 'Riders of the Dead'. The latter book is quite like '15 Hours' but it's somewhat longer, goes more in depth, and also covers grounds like mortality and morality, and what it is to be alive - themes often glazed in BL books.

Ive only read a couple of 40k books (well one and im in the process of reading another) as i tend to steer clear of what i disparagingly call 'fan fiction', but the ones ive read 'Flight of the Eisenstein' by James Swallow and 'Horus Rising' by Dan Abnett, both in the Horus Heresy series, I really enjoyed! then again i'm not a huge 40k fluff-head so i'm not too bothered if it doesn't completely follow the fluff as I understand it from playing the game. I have particulary enjoyed the discussions of faith and how the Emperor fits into the 'Terran' need for religion, also making what can sometimes appear to be pantomime villains in the game (Abbadon, Typhus etc) fully rounded characters in their pre-heresy form is interesting to read. Anyway they have the Sir Theo Book Club recommendation (just think of me as a British, thin(ner), Male Oprah)

Rep Power: 53 ![]() ![]() | I've read the first three books in the space wolf series and they were all good. I'm however looking for some books in the chaos or Eldar point of view. Are there any that exist out there? Or are all the books only staring marines and super special guard?

Storm of Iron This is about the Iron Warrior Chapter. AMAZING and chaosy! Dark Apostle This is about the Word Bearer Chapter. In my opinion it is a good book, but Storm of Iron is better. But my favorite CSM chapter is the Word Bearers just because this book!
