I have completed the 1st full draft of the Nautican army. Please feel free to rate the units and post any comments or suggestions. If you play test it please let me know how the army performed and if anything looks "broken" All the details are here:- New Warhammer Battle Army - the Nauticans Once the army has the "thumbs up" from the Warhammer community I will change it into a free pdf download on my blogsite.

Great! i love it! I said to myself only the other day, "Why isnt there a water based race?" the concept is good but i do have an idea or 2 that may help if you choose to use it, when the old ones came to the world they had to shift the continents and move the planet closer making it easier for the fledgeling humans and elfs to live in. the nauticans were elfs who akin to the dark elfs split with the high elfs decided to leave the tribes and set up new ones on the shores fishing when food was required, over time they spent more and more time in the water until their greatest mages cast a spell of immense power to fundamentaly alter their race, from that point on all elfs (or nauticans as they now were) born had webbed limbs and gills these children were amphibious but could spend hours or even days underwater without needing to breathe. Slowly over many hundreds of years less and less of the new race spent time on land and they soon established towns and citys underwater. then you could insert the first chaos incursions and take it from there but i think it adds more depth and interest if you give some background of why they are like they are and how they are akin to elves. as i said before it is just an idea but if you insert it i really think it will help. good luck with the army list, if models existed i would buy them! |

Thanks for being so late to reply. Comments noted. I'll add them to my long list to review this weekend and let you know the outcome. Please check the blog sometime after Sunday 9th Nov when I should have it updated. Thanks again, Sigmar

Wow this is pretty cool, and I'm being genuine for once. I could actually see myself building this army, and using it in Warhammer....which is shocking due to my stance against non-GW armies. But then these days GW seems to be going out of it's way to piss me off, so there's that. Bravo dude, maybe with enough help from LO in general we can make it a balanced and competitive list, maybe show GW play testers how to do it right. (ZING!) My only true problem is the Sea Storms rule, for no negative other than opting to not go first you gain a HUGE advantage. I'd rather see this rule changed to something more in line with the Bretts, maybe granting a bonus when near water terrain. However, I do like the -1 BS and wet gunpowder rule, and feel it would be better as one of your spells spells. Make it like 18", Casting power 8-9? Models in the effected suffer -1 BS. Before the unit shoots, roll a D6, on a roll of a 6 they must forfeit their shooting for that turn. I would also like to see some special rules that allow more synergy near water, maybe stat bonuses or other effects? Allowing to move through water with no ill effect is great and all, but something else would be nice. This could be a new version of Sea Storm, but in the end these are just opinions and it is your project man. A few of the spells are way to powerful for their casting value. The first spell in particular rivals or surpasses many of Slaanesh's trickery, and this is from the NEW book. For only a 5+ (Hard one one dice, very easy on two) I can set up a powerful unit infront of a weak one, cast the spell, move the unit into mine and resolve a one-sided affair. If the enemy unit strikes first it could make a difference, though a very small one to me. More as I read and get some sleep, lack of energy to help. -K

I've read the units, but no magic stuff yet of fluff (though I remember reading the fluff a while ago, while the army was still a WIP), as I must soon go to bed, but I gotta say, listening to the song I am, and reading that gives a feeling of utter dark, dank, underwateryness. The concept is utterly amazing, very well written. just a few problems come to mind. 1. giant crab: the chrushing pincers rule seems really extreme, It'd be a bit more fair to lower the point cost and make it +1S against an armor save of 3+ or more. 2. Mermaids: they seem way too powerful to be a hero choice. 3. anchor of time: seems a bit too overpowered. I may just have to make myself up some of those models by the descriptions, because, damn.... just damn... so cool... P.S. the song I'm referring to is Plunging hornets from venetian snares.
