I love it!

Oh, yeah. Pretty much universal outside of your trusted group of friends.

Get grabby once, I tell you to stop and ask me if you'd like to check out a model (I'll usually let them pick it up if I'm confident they'll be suitably careful).

Once you get grabby twice, or start moving my models in-game without permission, that's cause for a shot upside the head.

I don't say this because I feel awkward as a thirty-year old playing a child's game or anything, but I really don't think the Warhammer hobby is suitable for children under fourteen.

The one thing is requires more than anything is patience and that is something that children have in dramatically short supply.

As a rule, I don't play against children, so I don't have the problem of people touching my figures without asking first, though nothing is to stop an adult from acting like a complete know-it-all and making a game turn into an exercise in tedium.

Now this story is true, I think someone from LO chat said it. They were playing this kid, and the kid got mad and slapped the pieces off the table. At what point are you allowed to hit kids? Is it when they slap your painted warhammer pieces off the table?

I think all these stories are possible as it's my belief the stupidity of man is as infinite as the Universe.

Hate to disagree with you here, but you're wrong, warhammer is an adult's hobby that is evolving, due to it often being played by younger children, into a more mass-marketed approach at being a young person's hobby.

However, amen to that.

I started playing fantasy when I was 13/14. I couldn't paint, couldn't really afford it and probably bugged the hell out of the other gamers. I really can't play against young kids, and I applaud those staff members who have to put up with it EVERY BLOOMING SUNDAY!

Whilst I have never witnessed anything on quite this scale, I have seen numerous dice and whippy stick* fights in my time.

Example #1: A 40k tourney, this kid kept insisting that a Dreadnought take a leadership test. Even when everyone including judges and GW officials said otherwise. The kid (he was probally 16-19) Then threatens to kick the other players butt for "cheating" the two go outside. Kid gets beaten up, when the cops arrive, eveyroen says they didn't see anything and the kid gets in trouble for making a false report.

Example #2: Fantasy Tourny. This guy loose to a kid, breaks the boys dragon which he workd so hard on and laughs. The store owner takes out a shotgun and tells him to buy the kid a new dragon then leave and never come back

Example #3: Not at a tourny, but a good example. Guy looses, take a wraithlord and throws it against a cinderblock wall. The Wraithlord is unharmed but the cinderblock has a huge hole in it. Apparently the Wraithlord was an old metal model that had been asse, mbles with some kind of industrial adhesive.

Example #4: This guy takes his gf to a tourny, one of the guys there clearly doesn't know hwo to speak to women. He says something she didn't like. She takes a metal nid model. Either hive tyrant or carnifex and throw sit at him. It ends up slamming into his chest and he's bleeding a little bit.

Anyone else here have stories of Warhammer idiocy at it's finest?

Bravo Sierra.

Thats cool. I'm glad you're managing to find the hobby so rewarding. What I said was a bit of a sweeping generalisation and I do apologise for that. However, stereotypes do tend to be stereotypes for a reason, and in my experience I have found it difficult to find a good game with a young gamer who is mature enough so that the game is enjoyable for both sides. However, I do feel that at 20 I am rapidly turning into a grumpy old fart who has forgotten what its like to be young whilst still being it(ish).

I didn't want to offend anyone, and I'm sorry if I did. I'm not saying GW hobbies should be for adults exclusively, I'm just saying that GW shouldn't push them at young gamers so much. It actually saddens me when I see 10 year olds going in and buying models. Chances are thats just more profit in GW's coffers as I'm guessing most of those won't be as loved as other models are. By which I mean when I started WH, there were 8 of us in a club at school. That grew a little, but out of the 8 that started, only 4 left with any interest in the game, and only 2 of us still had any models. The other guys had lost, broken, thrown away, given away or packed off in shoeboxes under beds.
