    Photographing my miniatures

Hi boys (and girls - wait do girls play Warhammer?!)

I've decided to start a painting blog of my new army on the website of my local gaming club. I have got Photoshop CS2 on my computer, but there are so many buttons in that program and I'm really, really terrible with it. Normally I can figure out how to do stuff in software programs, but Photoshop utterly bamboozles me.

I would like to take pictures of my units and have a clear, white background. Instead of a table surface with blurry GW painting pots, scrached CD's and a joystick in the background. The question is how do I do this?

So far I've managed to figure out how to open picture files, rename them and save them in another folder on my computer, but that's about it when it comes to my photoshop skills

    Please help me!

You, sir, are in luck. Our own minus_t has made what I consider to be an excellent guide for this very issue.

    You can find it here.

Minus_t's guide is very good. I think what you're asking it how to remove backgrounds and replace them with white... this is too much trouble to do for a whole project, and the edges of the model will end up looking a little sloppy.

Check Minus_t's guide and use the curved-white-paper-with-good-lighting-and-tripod method, then open the photos in Photoshop and hit Image > Adjustments > Auto Levels, > Auto Colors (sometimes this makes the colors messed up though), and > Auto Contrast. You'll end up with some nice photos.

It's really a very low-tech solution. I just took two pieces of typing/printer/copy paper and taped them together, edge to edge. The simplest way to do it is to stick one end to the wall and let it slope down to the table, where you place your mini.

Slightly more sophisticated methods involve using a box with holes cut in the sides to let light in.

Thanks guys for referring me to that awesome guide. Made things a lot clearer and now I learned something new about Photoshop, as well!
