First off, this is not a poll because I'm just curious about the differences, not what is "ZOMG, soooooos much betterz" I'm going to have to get the rules, but I wanted to see the what is the best choice for me. I know the starter set has all those models for a ridiculously good price. However, I also notcied that the rulebook that comes with it as a lot smaller. What is missing from the rulebook in the starter set that the regualr rulebook has? |

If you love the fluff get the main rule book. It's what I got, and it's just great. If you love the models more then the background info get the box set. I saw the contents today at the G.W in Bedford. And the War Lord for the Orks and he is just MASSIVE! And the Ork deffcopters are much better in the plastic than a picture of the web. I was really impressed. And Space Marine stuff is also pretty ace. Or you could go nut, and buy both. I have now have a srtong to buy the box set aswell. - bOOMER.

If you have a use for the models or think you can sell them on Ebay (or anywhere else) for a reasonable price I'd go for the starter set, it's so much cheaper than buying the big book and models. If you really must have all the fluff in the rulebook, then go for buying the Big Red Book. If you have tons of cash lying around or just want both, go for both. Pretty much simple as that. The small book has everything the big book does except the fluff, all the rules, and I'm pretty sure all the scenarios (they were in 4th ed) are in there, so don't worry about it unless you simply must have fluff.

the rule book in the starter set is just that a rule book it has nothing but the rules.

IT'S NOT THE "BRB" THE BRB IS THE FANTASY BOOK!! WE CLAIMED THE NAME DANGIT, IT'S NOT FOR YOU SPACE-MONKIES! However, as a space monkey myself, I'd have to say that the starter box is the best. You get all those cool tradeable/convertable/sellable/playable models, and then a quick reference book. If you need models, or are truly just starting, I'd jump on that starter box. I already have a marine army, but I can't turn down a new character to paint, 5 termies, and a Dreadnought, all for the cost of the Termies alone. Plus, I'm trading the Orks to a friend to get his marines, and that makes it even better for me. The Ork player is just starting, and he's getting 2 boxes worth of Orks, plus their specific starter box, and an Armageddon formation, and that's his army- 3 purchases and some conversion work from me.

Ergo: The Big Black Book - BBB, that have replaced the Big Grey Book - BGB. (we're talking 40k here...) Perhaps I should answer the question also: I got the book but will probably buy the set also, to get some more models (than I already have...).
