Well, this is a simple concept - I want to make all Necrons I'm gonna have to look the same. Thus each Warrior squad will all have the exact same pose, same goes for Wraiths, Immortals, Destroyers etc. I wnat to give them this "Unstoppable, relentless horde" feel.
Question is, how to do this with a Lord?
What do you think of this idea?
Just let the Lord be unique. If you've got a "clone army" running around, having a unique-looking leader would make him stick out as their leader all the more.

No offense but that army would be so lame to look at...

That's really messed up, even logically speaking. When you think about it, there is NO WAY that every single unit in an army (speaking as if Necrons were real) would be in the exact pose every single millisecond of the time, and in the exact same positions, and not one molecule different. No, you would have different units, with their varying wieght, moving differently in order to carry their weight and structure efficiently, and thus make them move differently. Plus, with the different weapons they carry, it would make sense that each specific unit would be in the pose that would deal the maximum amount of damage with their specific weapon.
"And whoever wants to be a creator in good and evil, must first be an annihilator and break values. Thus the highest evil belongs to the greatest goodness: but this is--being creative."
~ Friedrich Nietzsche ~
I gotta say that if I saw that army, all posed the same way, it wouldn't make me think of an unstoppable horde, it would make me think that the owner had no imagination. You'd get the feel of an unstoppable horde by using almost nothing but necron warriors. You TRY and kill off 100+ Necron warriors in a 6 turns

well it does make them look like they have no personality, but the fact is you dont need a personality to move really do you...so they would move differently
Never judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes...by that time they'll be a mile away, and have no shoes
All i can say is that to get that look to work, you would have to have every model apear like it was on the march. Ranks upon ranks of silent terminators..... i mean necrons just stomping along in perfect unison.
Still its quite hard to do, and youd get bored of it pretty quick.

"Errr do you mean run away?"
"Thats the one"</span>
"Oh man, look at that."
"Over there, by that river of boiling souls."
"Well I'll be damned... it's a Starbucks."

the customization is what makes it interesting, and same poses would ruin that idea

I'm trying to get this "their number is legion, their name is death" feeling...
As far as it goes, different types of troops would have different poses, sure, but I intend to give them also the feel of a soulless machine horde.
As for customisation... my Dark Angels and Dark Eldar are customized as far as I can do on almost every model. DE actually exist just for this sake (and doing something with these sprue after sprue of DE plastics fro mthe starter box). It would be a nice break-off to do something the likes of.
Should look like the third one counting from the left.
I think it would be a great idea, but I think that you would do better to not have them holding their weapons at the ready, as if they weren't mid fighting, more along the lines of slowly, unstopabbly advancing.
The lord could have his Staff of Light replaced with a Gaus Flayer, and you could work from there?
