Teceo Secundus, Hive World, Population: 140.000.000.000
10 years ago...
The howling winds sweaped across the desolate plains. The sun was high and the toxic clouds danced in the sky like abstract, purple ghosts.
Suddenly, a tiny object pierced the clouds and approached the planet with a tail of fire behind it. With a thud it hit the ground.
For a few minutes the object lay silent. No more than a few feet in length it had the shape of an egg or cocoon. Then with a hiss it cracked open, letting out yellow steam. A ghastly head appeared. Bright purple and dripping with slime the creature emerged. Gradually stretching its limbs and taking in its new environment it revealed its size. Almost twice the size of a man it must have been completely curled up inside the cocoon.
The creature bobbed its head and spread out its limbs revealing razor sharp claws.
Suddenly, as if by instinct the creature turned and scuttled with amazing speed across the desert sands towards the Hive City of Baredin.

Jaco swept the shotgun shells out the door and onto the street. This had been the fourth raid the damn Bronzeshields had made on his bar this week and frankly he was getting sick of it. Out of nowhere they would come in their black uniforms all spick and span, waving their shields around and pointing their shotguns at everyone. "The Emperor this!" and "the Emperor that!". Not that Jaco wasn’t religious, well, maybe he was, it just bothered him that they had to come around and scare his customers half to death every other day.
This time some poor fool had made a run for it and the Bronzeshields had unloaded their shotguns into his back spraying blood and guts all over Jaco's newly painted walls.
"Adeptus Arbites my foot!" mumbled Jaco as he put the broom back in the closet.
All these raids were beginning to worry him. It wasn't normal. Nothing usually happened in this part of the city. He shrugged. It wasn't his business anyway.
His thoughts were abruptly interrupted. A hooded man came crashing into his bar, knocking over a few tables.
"Hey!" shouted Jaco but froze as the man looked up at him.
His eyes were wide open, almost unnaturally wide, and bright black like a doll's and his skin seemed to pulse.
"He's in the bar!" yelled a voice from the street but Jaco was too stunned with fear to take notice.
With superhuman speed the hooded figure pounced.
Jaco was dead before he could open his mouth.
Chief Judge Rigo Taren slammed his power maul into the face of another mineworker who fell screaming to the ground dropping his rock-drill.
The riots had become increasingly violent over the last few weeks and Taren was beginning to worry about how long he would be able to sustain control over this district. He had already lost four judges in the last three days and the number of civilian casualties was in its hundreds. Ever since the local senator had halved rations in the mining districts things were getting steadily worse. Taren was not surprised. In the back of his mind Taren actually felt for these people. They were hard working and lived in almost perpetual darkness deep inside the Hive City. Losing half their rations must be terrible, but Taren had sworn to uphold law and order and he would not stand for riots in his district, whatever the reason.
Judge Areo arrived at Taren’s side.
‘The rioters are dispersing, sir,’ said the young judge, clearly out of breath.
‘Very good,’ replied Taren, ‘Organise raids on the nearby buildings and see if you can mop up any potential troublemakers.’
Areo acknowledged and ran off.
Taren let out a sigh and flicked off his power maul, what a day.
The stairs leading to the Baredin Senate were shiny white marble and the Imperial Aquila hung proudly over the immense gates above. Hundreds of feet from wing to wing and made from pure gold it was an awe-inspiring sight. Rigo Taren had been a judge for fifteen years and this was the first time he had seen the upper levels of the city. Never had he seen such a clean place.
‘Shall we proceed?’ said the robed adept who had picked him up earlier.
Taren simply nodded and followed. He had no idea why he had been brought here; he was only a street judge. What business could he possibly have up here? One minute he had been sitting in his office in Mining District IX, trying to get some rest after another riot, and the next minute he was walking up the marble steps of the Senate.
He followed the adept through the immense gate where a pair of guards stood at attention. Their shiny, red armour and polished shotguns amused Taren and he tried his best not to laugh. A right pair of toy soldiers they were.
The adept led him though a long, dim hall with hundreds of sculptures of robe-clad men and women. Former senators Taren supposed they were.
Eventually they reached another large gate at the end of the hall and a guard greeted them. Taren was told to hand over his shotgun and power maul and he reluctantly agreed.
‘What’s all this about?’ he asked, but the adept didn’t answer, much to Taren’s discomfort.
A moment later the gate opened and they were bathed in light. Taren winced and covered his eyes with his arm, he had lived his whole life in the muffled streetlights of the lower levels and this light was beyond anything he had ever encountered.
The adept took his arm and led him through the gate. Taren blinked and looked around, still trying to get used to these unfamiliar surroundings.
He found himself in an enormous, round hall. Clear white it was and along the walls descending in a sloping pattern hundreds of leather seats created an overwhelming stadium effect. In the centre was a podium, and the instead of a ceiling the hall was covered by a massive glass dome, letting in the sunlight. All his life Taren had only imagined the beauty of the sun, and here he was, bathed in its light.
‘Judge Taren,’ said a voice, tearing him from his sense of awe. ‘Good to meet you.’
Taren saw an old man coming towards him. Dressed in red robes and wearing a tall, rounded hat that made him look very important indeed. Taren recognised the six-tipped star of Teceo-Secundus woven into the hat and immediately recognised the man as none other than Governor Monteran himself. He dropped to one knee.
‘Stand up, man,’ laughed Monteran, ‘No time for politeness now, we have work to do!’
Taren stood up rather embarrassed.
‘That’s right, Governor,’ said a harsh voice from behind Monteran, ‘And time is of the essence!’
A tall man appeared. He was wearing a dark grey greatcoat reaching almost to the ground, a stiff, tipped cap with a laurel-crowned skull sat firmly on his head and a bright red bionic eye gave his already solemn features an even more sinister look. He turned to Taren.
‘Greetings, Judge Taren,’ he said, ‘I am Colonel Vermund Hädwig of the 656th Death Korps of Krieg.’
More to come soon...
Great work Boba. I love the way you give the senate a very roman sort of feel. Can't wait for more.

We should make this so that only a few people, who are actually writing fluff, could post, as to not fill up this story thread with unnecessary posts. No offense anyone, just want to make it nice and accessible.
"And whoever wants to be a creator in good and evil, must first be an annihilator and break values. Thus the highest evil belongs to the greatest goodness: but this is--being creative."
